Solas’ lips twitch, just slightly, and in the dim light he raises his head and looks Varric in the eye.
“Is that how you would introduce me, were I a character in one of your books? I’m curious. If you were writing me into being, what words would you choose?”

After losing Athera and giving his orb to Corypheus, Solas has no choice but to join the fledgling Inquisition and try to make things right. But with a nosy dwarf and an even nosier spy master knowing far more of him than they should, this time everything is different. A wolf without a pack is vulnerable, and Solas is in no state to play games.

“You are free, ma lath,” she tells him, as pained, frightened eyes meet hers and the wild magic around them grows stronger. “But is it truly the end?”
He straightens, slow and agonised; every inch of his broken spirit seeming to bleed through the cracks of his expression.
When he speaks, his voice is ragged, torn open like the breaking of his ancient heart.
“What…” He swallows a sob. “What do you mean?”

Basically, I loved the game but I wrote the ending I really wanted for veilguard!

She wraps her arms around him and lets him complete his checks, and when he pulls back to look into her face, she’s giving him the smile she reserves only for when she’s about to say something completely saccharine and embarrassing.
“Whatever you’re thinking darling, don’t say it.”

If Astarion could blush, he would. Since he can’t, he puts on his most pompous and condescending look and stares down his nose at her in clear disdain.

This started out as a bit of harmless smut and instead turned into a bit of smut with a LOT of feelings. Oops.

A re-imagining of the events of Inquisition/Trespasser from mostly Solas's perspective, if the Dalish Inquisitor was a bit sassier and more inquiring, and he was a bit more open to being vulnerable. Mostly follows the events of the game, but with new scenes in-between as they grow closer, and a bit of AU imagining of moments when he's forced lets his guard down. Lots of pining and angst ahead I suspect, and a few creative revisions of in-game scenes. There might be a happy ending but I haven't quite decided yet; there will be tears.
