Taako wakes up in an unfamiliar place. It’s close quarters, wooden walls, and the sheets are neatly made except for where he clearly thrashed in his sleep.
And he’s alone.
He looks around the interior of the wagon, and then examines the outside, too, but there are no answers. Only more questions. Like, why does this wagon have his name on it, where did he get all this food, what had he been doing last?

But even through all of the endless questions she had of how, why, what now, she still made sure that she flew down to Ithaca every day, either choosing to be invisible or lurk in the trees as an owl and watched as Odysseus played with Eurylochus and Polites, watching as the three boys ran around the woods. Though oftentimes, the former two ran while the latter one merely followed. They acted like the children they were, but not how Athena remembered them to be.
Perhaps if there was a way, she would have gone to the underworld and demanded her grandfather's council — after all, Kronos was the Titan of time. Perhaps it was he who could explain how she had come to the situation she was in.
And where she was, was back in time, back in the past.

So many words bubble up inside Odysseus, an unbearable pressure in his chest like one of Poseiden’s raging storms. “Penelope, if you knew what I’ve done… you—”
“Do not presume to know how I would feel. My feelings are my own.” Odysseus looks back up at her eyes, which are set with determination. “I love you, Odysseus. Nothing you could say now would change that.”
A strange sound tears itself out of his throat, a sort of keening sob. “I—I can’t… I don’t deserve you.”
“The man who fought for twenty years to return to me doesn’t deserve me?” she asks, one neat eyebrow raised in incredulity. “For one so intelligent you can be incredibly stupid.”

Summary
Polites expected himself to pass on to the Fields of Asphodel once he died. Sure, being killed by a cyclops was not his ideal way of dying, but at least he sacrificed himself for his friends, his brothers. There was no more honourable a death than that, right? But suddenly, Polites is not so much dead as he is a ghost and the only one who can see him is Odysseus’ son, and he quickly realises one thing: his nephew deserves the world, and Polites is going to do his best to provide him with it.
Extract:
Was this his punishment, he wondered in the darker moments. To stand and witness his friends lose themselves to grief and fury, to lose each other and their humanity and being unable to help? The grief in his heart was palpable, and Polites didn’t know who it was that he was mourning.
Then, something strange happened. A pull at his consciousness, a gentle tugging that came from Ithaca, he realised, recognising the familiar shore, and it was like he was struck by lightning.
It led him to a child. A bright eyes, dark haired child. The kid looked up, nose scrunched adorably like he was solving the world’s greatest mystery, and Polites’ heart. He knew that face. He knew his brother’s son.

Even from a distance, Hera can see that Athena is being held together by adrenaline alone. There’s no room under her skin for anything else. It is enough to get her up the steps, enough to hold her upright as she drags each word from her throat, letting them tumble like rocks from her mouth. But it is not enough to keep her standing beyond that. She has barely squeezed that last 'go' through her teeth before she crumples like yesterday’s laundry, discarded on the floor.
