The second instalment tells how they both get involved with the Inquisition and how, eventually, Fenris is named Inquisitor.

A series of little snippets set in act one with a cantakerous Hawke and her complicated something with Fenris.

Hawke was a few drinks in and had shifted in the chair, bracing one foot on the opposite arm so she didn’t totter off. Fenris had to reach past her to play his hand and she started whispering strategy in his ear when he made a play she didn’t like. She was far too close now leaning in and rearranging the cards in his hand for him.
“I can-”
“Shut up, you cannot, Varric is going to take your entire house at the rate this is going,” she argued.
“Hey,” Varric said.
“You’re a card shark.”
“You’re a flirt,” he shot back.
“Am I?” she asked.
This too was a joke. Everything that came out of their mouths was a joke. He realised a moment too late that it was a joke at his expense when she played with his hair, running her fingers through it.

Every year, Richter accompanies his mom to her museum's soulless Christmas party, there to keep her from going insane and choking out her archnemesis, Olrox the conservator. This year, he brings friends to keep him sane in turn.
Considering how abruptly the apparently evil new director sent all this shit down the drain, this turned out to be a good move.

Olrox grapples with Mizrak's cutting words and contemplates his place in the Monk's life. He doesn't want to love again, especially when the rose he covets has as many thorns as himself - but he can't help it.
He knows it'll hurt, but he'd rather die than watch Mizrak suffer... Or leave, before he is forced to bear witness to the man's inevitable death.
Mizrak fights within himself to determine what he truly wants from the vampire he's come to know.
Is it a sin to desire his company? His body? His heart?
Or should he push him until he abandons him, sparing Mizrak's guilty soul as he goes?
