It was not abnormal for Yelena to come to the rooftop in the early hours of the morning. It was, however, abnormal for someone else to be in her spot.
It was two AM. The air was frigid; mid-October was sweeping into the city in great gusts of wind, cool during the day but chilly at night, and Yelena had bundled up in oversized sweats and fuzzy socks to combat the cold. He, however, was wearing nothing but a t-shirt and shorts, feet bare and dangling over the edge. Staring out over the abyss. It made something twist in the pit of her stomach.
Or, Yelena finds John in a bit of a perilous spot. They talk about it.

“…Olivia’s out of town,” Walker says, sounding uncomfortable. “Can I get drunk?”
It sounds like he’s asking for Bucky’s permission to do so, which is weird beyond comprehension, but before Bucky can point out his choice of wording, Walker clarifies.
“Like, am I able to? Is that even a thing anymore? Or does being a super soldier mean I’m condemned to some bitter life of sobriety now? Because that would suck.”
“…Everclear,” Bucky says stiffly after yet a few more seconds of that same awkward silence. It’s starting to feel pretty unbearable. “Two or three bottles, maybe. As fast as you can comfortably drink it before your metabolism catches up.”
“Okay, cool,” Walker says, and the line goes dead with a click.

Aka Tony builds a bridge out of the ruins of a crappy childhood and thrives.
When Edwin Jarvis is killed, 16-years-old Tony throws away the drugs, the spoiled party girl image, the money, her old "family", and anything associated with Natasha Antonia Stark. She quietly finishes her bachelor's and lives, for the most part, by herself in a small cabin, owned by the late Jarvises, taking it one day at a time.
Four years later, after she inherits everything with the untimely deaths of Howard and Maria Stark, Tony really just wants to be left alone with her four friends: Pepper, Rhodey, Happy, and JARVIS.It all starts when she complains to Rhodey that she has no idea what to do with the money, and he states that if Tony really wants to take a shit on the Stark name (in addition to continuing existing, but that's Tony's words not Rhodey's). She should take Stark Mansion and invite all and any supernatural creatures to help her destroy it, or even better, to make their home there.
Tony, because she's Tony, latches onto the idea and by the end of it, creates a family.
