Summary
The world hits Eddie Diaz with sharp jabs; punches to the gut, chest, face.
And he’s caught, trapped, between the blows—that are fast and hard like snipers to his left, like Greggs with a bullet in his chest, like Shannon bloody on the ground—and relief.
Relief that comes quick and far between, like Christopher in his arms, like the 118 by his side, like a cold beer in his kitchen, just him and Buck.
He’s always alternating between the two, never not ready for the blow, never not waiting for relief to end.
That’s all he’s known, all he’s ever known.
Or
Eddie’s been the man of the house since he turned 11 years old.

Summary
Running to the frontlines from a childhood he never had. Taking a bat to the wall with his son in the next room. Having an affair with the spitting image of his dead wife.
Eddie knows he’s never been good at grieving, knows he’s never been good at losing what little he allows for himself in the first place. This is why he also knows his coping mechanisms can’t possibly get any worse.
Buck, as he so often does, makes him reevaluate his assumptions.

Summary
Almost a week after leaving L.A., Evan "Buck" Buckley is back with a plan and a newfound determination to get back the job and the family he lost. This time, he's the one in control and he's adamant that no one will take that away from him.
He decides to keep his return to L.A. a secret until he's ready to face them one by one. With some interesting but much-needed conversations on the horizon, Buck readies himself for the fight ahead of him.
OR, Buck returns to L.A. to try to fight for his job.
This is a sequel to my other Fic 'Can't Keep Chasing This Fire (I'm so Damn Tired)' and would make more sense once that one has been read.

Summary
With the lawsuit hanging over his head, Evan "Buck" Buckley decides to pack his things and leave L.A. behind. He resigns from the LAFD, clears out his apartment, and drops a stack of letters off at the firehouse before disappearing into the comfort of Oregon's National Parks.
The 118 are left reeling by his sudden departure with nothing but a stack of letters explaining why he left and unsure whether he'll ever return. They struggle to pick up the pieces left behind with new feelings and realizations dragging themselves out of the woodwork.
Or, Buck leaves L.A. to clear his head and the 118 falls apart.

“Eddie, please, I need you to come home. It’s important.”
“God Buck you’re doing it again! I thought you understood I need to get Chris back, you can’t make this about yourself!”
“I-I’m not, please just come home! For a visit, just a couple days-“
“No.”
Death has favorites and she offers Buck a deal. He has a week.
