Indrid continued matter-of-factly, counting on his fingers as he spoke, “You’re not coercing me to do anything I don’t wish to, and I can choose to stop at any time. You also understand that just because I can see the future doesn’t mean I can always do something about it.” He said that point in a tone that suggested Duck should agree. He bobbed his head once in wide-eyed assurance. “Additionally, we’ll find a way to ensure my home and I are cleared of suspicion from the townspeople.”

Written for the 2022 April Challenge month as a response to SlayrGrl's Vampire Riley challenge. It's essentially a season 5 rewrite, AU elements start pretty much immediately but really ramp up mid-season.

... It's a duck.
There's just a tiny bit of magic floating around after Willow ends the Will be Done spell, and it turns the resident captive vampire into a duckling. And he's so adorably angry about it. Question is now... who's going to take care of duckling!Spike? Oh, it's Buffy, of course.
But Spike being a duck doesn't mean everything else goes away. He's got a new perspective, and over time, so does Buffy. Changes to Season 4 grow as time goes on.
I'm sure someone's written something like this before, but I got the idea and here we are. The plot also started to happen, and now I can't stop it.

After the Babylon Rogues knock Tails off his board in the final stretch of a race, Sonic doesn't hesitate to trade first place for his little bro. But a part of Tails wishes he wasn't always the reason Sonic makes these kinds of sacrifices.

Maria Robotnik has lived for fifty years on the planet she once looked down upon from the ARK. She's had a fulfilling life, the medication she takes making her condition less life threatening and more chronic. Still, she's now in her 60s and she's not getting any younger. There's still one thing she wants more than anything. Her little brother. The reason she's still alive to begin with has been locked away all this time. He needs the chance to live a life of his own.
And it's hard to expect life to remain simple even when she does get him out. The world keeps turning and her cousin is still determined to take over it. Just as she and Shadow start to settle into a new normal, they have to fight for the world, though they're not alone in the fight.
And Shadow? Shadow is quickly learning that even in the new "normal" everything is somehow weirder than his life on the ARK. Especially when encountering a certain blue hedgehog.

Summary
After being on Starfall Islands, Sonic's friends, true to their word, go off and explore the world on their own, which leaves Sonic alone in Tail's workshop to keep an eye on the Master Emerald and himself. Being left alone after the pain of Cyberspace is definitely a good idea.
Time has never ticked by slower. But, with the sudden run into Shadow under the stars, his life starts to pick up once more. But the sudden strange attitude Sonic has does not go unnoticed by the other hedgehog.
With a newfound motivation, and the tired old threat of a new plan from Dr. Eggman once again, Sonic is ready to battle him once again, even if he doesn't have his friends right near him at the moment. Well, except for the three strange friends standing around him as they stare at the documents regarding Eggman's new plans.

The nightmare always starts the same.
The Tornado idling on a field, red metal gleaming in the sun, an excited Tails flying circles around one of the wings.
Last minute adjustments, he shouts.
Take your time, Sonic shouts back.
He is balancing on top of a low ledge, not even looking up. He hasn't looked up once ever since arriving here, ever since noticing the plane and the bags and hearing the engine purr relentlessly. Out of the corner of his eyes he can see his little brother zipping back and forth, can hear his excited chatter, low and muffled as if reaching him through glass. He concentrates on his shoes and on the thin ledge he is pacing on.
Up and down. Up and down.
I'm done, Tails calls.
Great, Sonic calls back.

After the events of Sonic Frontiers Tails has left for his own adventure and Sonic is happy for his little brother. Everything is fine. Great even.
Now if his mind would just stop playing tricks on him...
