Summary
The alien—Grace—is finally asleep. Or, at least, Rocky thinks he is. He’s curled on his side, tucked away under a covering. Rocky sits on the other side of the alcove the human lies in, fiddling away with one of his many repair projects. Typically, watching another as they sleep is fairly straightforward and uneventful. Not much is needed beyond something to do and to keep a lookout for whoever’s resting.
But Rocky can’t help but focus more on Grace as he rests. He just can’t; the way the human sleeps is, quite literally, otherworldly.

Summary
In a universe where your lost belongings apear with your soulmate for safekeeping, Ryland Grace receives very few objects from his soulmate—but he treasures every single one of them.
The only thing keeping Rocky sane during his years stranded in space are the strange trinkets that appear around him from his soulmate. He is endlessly grateful for them finally appearing; he desperately needs the distraction from his dead crew and the crushing silence of space.Bookmarked by JustSomeAmoeboid

Summary
For three hours, he’s at the beach, takes off his socks and hikes Ilyukhina’s dress up, and stands in the water. He left the cane on the shore; it hurts to let his frame bear the brunt of gravity unsupported. The reliable tide, just cool enough to chill him a little, laps at his shins.
He closes his eyes and tries to forget about himself, the familiar ache in his joints and spine. Allows himself to imagine something else.
A different truth, a hypothetical, a thought exercise.
Rocky can't bear to lose Grace. But he can bear to watch Grace wither away from a sickness easily cured by Earth medicine even less.
Grace has to make another choice.
Or: After thirteen years on Erid, Grace leaves his true home for Earth. Eva Stratt lives to see him return. Earth takes note of the changes.

At the height of human knowledge - laptops stuffed with every single website and resource known to man before said man was shot out into space, screens mounted to simulate trees and beaches and fog, an interstellar spaceship with 12 countries plastered on it like a group craft project - they gave him a bit of life to care for.

Summary
“I think little humans love you,” Rocky says. “Must. You are—”
He hesitates, thinking.
“Need word. Love very much, but not person. Love thing. Love doing. Need nothing else.”
He has a way of working his limited vocabulary into just the right order. I turn to look at him like a starving animal that’s just been offered food, crumpling under how warm it makes me feel.
“Passionate,” I say weakly. Rocky sings the Eridian word, a multi-layered crescendo of chords that each seem to pour into the next, one by one by one. “I guess I am.”
Rocky gestures with a chain link he’s picked up, getting back to work. “Everything you do, you are focused. Work work work. You teach me language. You teach me human ways. No give up until problem is solved. No rest until stupid. Passion.”
“Darn,” I say, for lack of more intelligent words. Rocky briefly looks up from his chain.
“What, question?”
“I never thought about it like that.”
/////
Or: With nothing to do besides putting together a chain one link at a time, Grace and Rocky find time to have a moment.
