Summary
Roche limit: the distance from a celestial body within which a second celestial body, held together only by its own force of gravity, will disintegrate because the first body's tidal forces exceed the second body's self-gravitation.
As the distance between the Hail Mary and Erid shrinks, as the language and cultural barriers disappear, Grace's health deteriorates and Rocky's worries skyrocket. Scurvy, cabin fever, malnutrition, tension and arguments – their friendship is put to the test when they are faced with challenges they cannot science their way out of. When a sudden Taumoeba emergency disrupts their journey just as they are about to reach Erid's radio range, they are forced to take a detour to Threeworld's Petrova-line to prevent Grace from starving to death. Shadow doesn’t take his eyes off Sonic as he brings his thumb back against the toy like he’d done before, slicks the pad along the folds until he gets up to the soft clit. Sonic twitches in the door, just a small, subtle clench of muscles along his shoulders and thighs.
Sonic’s eyes widen, watching as Shadow pets over the toy clit again, a more firm circling of his thumb, and near immediately Sonic gasps quietly. His knees press together and the cock lean in the door frame turns into more of something clinging.

He's is in the water before he can even process the need to dive after Sonic. While the hybrid’s eyes have better darkvision than a regular hedgehog, the burn of saltwater as he scans for Sonic is starting to make the effort seem futile before he’s even really begun. Shadow starts to spiral downward, his heart sinking as fast as he is in the dark waters, the strong current, the crashing waves above him.
No. He can’t be gone already, can he? Did he really do all of this to fail? Failure wasn’t an option. It isn’t an option. He closes his eyes to ground himself. When suddenly, the space around him lacks the crushing pressure of the ocean. The cold of the water.
When he opens his eyes, he’s standing in the surf shop again.

That wasn’t Shadow. That wasn’t something Shadow would ever say. Not in a hundred years. Not even as a joke.
“…Wait.” The word came out rough. As if it scraped against something inside him. “You’re not Shadow. Are you.”
The smile changed—less like a stranger's grin now and more like something tender. Familiar even. Like Sonic had just said something kind. He tilted his head, studying him with calm reverence.
“That is correct, my liege,” he said, and then, with an almost theatrical grace, dropped to one knee. “It is I. Lancelot.”
And just like that, the world tilted beneath Sonic’s feet.
