It started with pon farr, and the forming of their bond on an isolated world. But on their return to the Enterprise, they begin navigating the twists and turns and bumps of a new relationship, two strong personalities testing boundaries and struggling for balance. Then Starfleet orders Kirk and Spock to negotiate a treaty with a potential Federation member and at the same time be an example of Federation tolerance. Once on the planet, they find that things are not as they seem.

An aged Kirk, waiting at home while his bondmate is away at a seminar, befriends a neighbor woman and her young son.
[He felt for the bond; it did not have the withdrawn quality of meditation. In fact, now that Kirk was not shielding, he realized that Spock was doing a very poor job of covering his distress.
Kirk hurried to Spock's study and opened the door quietly. Spock was kneeling beside his desk, his face buried in his hands.

Summary
At Starfleet Academy, Finnegan's roommate, a harsh, overbearing and insecure bully, takes the idea of a practical joke too far, injuring Cadet Kirk and leaving a guilt-ridden, not so cocky Finnegan in the wake of his brutality. Years later, now a starship captain, Kirk meets Finnegan again. His old feelings, and a still unresolved psychological block from the events at the academy, surface and threaten his mental health as well as his quickly deepening relationship with Spock.

He loves no-one...
Except for the family gardener and the President's personal aid, James Tiberius Kirk.
Kirk was trying to get into the Academy, but he couldn't afford it. President Uhura offered him a job to work there until he could enter Starfleet Academy. He is ever thankful to the President, but he catches sight of Spock and cannot take his eyes off him.

But disaster strikes as two ghosts from Spock and Christine's pasts come together to take what is theirs and Savvy disappears...
Fortunately, their second semester is taken on board a starship, allowing them to go out and find the lost daughter of Spock and Christine, only to discover there is something much more sinister at work going on.
