Zuko scrunches up his features in annoyance, letting out an exasperated: “Yes. Can we go?” He clicks his seatbelt on and slips his phone out from his pocket, turning his body away from Sokka.
Sokka’s face pulls back into his neck, jarred by the other man’s reaction. Oh, that’s how it is? He scrolls back up to find his “fun queer-time driving” playlist and presses play. Hope you like underground gay dance music, jerk."

Summary
The 80-year-war ended in a stalemate, the Fire Nation and the Northern Water Tribe signing a treaty to share the world. The North controls all the waters and the shores, the Fire Lord takes the inlands. They look out for each other, help each other to suppress and subjugate the South Pole and the Earth Continent.
Sokka was born into this, he knows that even if he’s officially being sent away from his birthland to learn the ways of the North, in reality he’s little more than a glorified prisoner. Even now, on this Northern ship he feels their scourge as they mock him behind his back; uncultured beast, dirty savage, southern scum… he considers turning on them and drastically reducing his life sentence when a cry of “Pirates!” erupts, seeding panic through the crew.
Sokka runs next to the captain and sees the old Admiral’s face go ashen as he watches the battleship with a golden dragon carved on the prow close in on them with impossible speed.
“Oh Tui, no...” He whispers, horrified “It’s the Blue Spirit.”

With time, it becomes familiar— the shape of a club, the slide of the boomerang, the heft of a spear, the curl of a fist prepared to land a punch— and sometimes, when he looks at his hands, he doesn't recognize them. They had once been unsure and clumsy and soft, but now they are certain and steady and rough.
He begins wrapping them in fabric, the way all the men in the village did, just so that he doesn't have to look at them and wonder if they’re his or not.
(It isn’t just his hands that don’t look like they’re his— he looks in the mirror, and no longer recognizes the person staring back at him.)
