Verso, a construction worker, one day caught a whiff of something intoxicating during his lunch break. There was an odd fragrance in that ice cream shop, driving him insane. He couldn't quite pin it down: he's tried each flavor twice. The nice beta behind the counter thought he just had a sweet tooth. But he's wrong. Verso is hunting for something, and it isn't just the gelato.

Summary
Three years ago, during the perfect Summer at his family's summer home, Verso Dessendre fell in love.
Then, he was forcibly reminded that he had his responsibilities, his duties, and that his life was not a fairy tale where he could run away with the merman he'd fallen in love with.
However, left to rot by the sea, without his ability to paint, with vicious wounds from a fire his sister had not survived, Verso can't help but wish for just a little of that fairy tale magic for himself and the merman who had stolen his heart - Gustave.

He wonders what it is (about him, about Verso) that lets him call Verso back from where CHROMA’s taken him. He wishes he knew, because it’s getting harder. It’s been three times now that Verso has gone out and come back, and three times that Gustave has managed to remind him of who he is: you’re Verso Dessendre, I’m Gustave Auclair. We’re Gundam pilots, we’re on the same side, please—please come home.
He’s not sure if there’ll be a fourth.
Or: Verso and Gustave are Gundam pilots in the never-ending war between the Painters and Writers. Verso and Gustave each want the other to stop fighting that war--Verso because he believes Gustave is meant for better things, Gustave because he doesn't want Verso trapped in the endless cycle of death and rebirth the war and his parents impose on him--and they'll both do whatever they need to do to give the other peace.
