After the battle with the Impure King, Rin Okumura expects exhaustion, injuries—maybe a lecture from Yukio.
What he doesn’t expect is the burning.
Exposed to demonic miasma during the fight, Rin unknowingly triggers his first demonic heat cycle—something no one ever warned him was possible. Feverish, overstimulated, and unraveling, he finds himself drawn toward one presence that eases the pain in a way nothing else can: Mephisto Pheles.
A bond forms before Rin understands what it means.
Unfinished, unstable, and dangerous, the tether leaves Rin caught between instinct and choice, desire and fear, while other demons begin to notice what he is—and what he’s worth. As Rin struggles to live like a normal teenager and deny the pull of the bond, Mephisto is forced to confront something far more unsettling than demonic politics: the realization that he may already be too late to pretend he doesn’t care.

Summary
Izuku Midoriya’s father is a Hou-ou — a Japanese phoenix.
For some reason, this means yokai have a standing invitation to pester Izuku with their existence. Birds assemble choirs for his birthday. If there’s no cedar leaf under the welcome mat, the amazake babaa that lives two apartments over will be knocking on their door by evening. His yokai-purifying excursions get mistaken for vigilantism far too often.
(What’s going on with All Might? Is Principle Nedzu a yokai? Tokoyami, could you please get Dark Shadow to stop calling me ‘my Lord’?)

Summary
Toshinori reaches a hand, the one that is shattered beyond repair and drenched in blood. He gives a smile to the boy. He can feel blood smeared across his teeth. He can't imagine his smile is any reassurance, but Toshinori is dying and desperate. A piss-poor smile is all he can give.
A piss-poor smile, and an earth-shattering quirk.
'I have a healing quirk,' he lies, begging the boy with his eyes. Please, say yes. Please accept my DNA. 'It only works on others. Let me h-help you? I won't last.' Toshinori's words come more and more haltingly. He can feel cold darkness encroaching on his limbs already. He tilts his hand, just slightly, just enough to renew his offer to the boy. 'At-At least… Not long enough… For help to arrive in time.'

Yagi Toshinori gets caught in a building collapse in his powered-down form. As he lays dying and without a successor, he offers his quirk to a young boy who is trapped alongside him.
All Might never makes it out of the building. But Midoriya Izuku does.
With no parent and a new limb-breaking quirk, he becomes a ward of UA.

Vigilantism is defined as illegal and/or unlicensed quirk use with the intentional goal of rounding up, attacking, or otherwise apprehending criminals or otherwise in a manner emulating the tasks of heroes in an offensive or dangerous manner.
Izuku reread the definition a few times.
It wasn't as though Izuku had never heard of vigilantes. He even had notes on a few interesting ones. He knew illegal quirk use was probably a big factor in it being, well, illegal. He just hadn't realized quirk use was what made somebody a vigilante. It was sort of odd. He expected the definition to be more… inclusive, he supposed. What if somebody just didn't use their quirk? It couldn't apply to mutations unless they had emitter or transformation qualities, right? It couldn't apply to-
It couldn't apply to him.
He couldn't be a vigilante.
They couldn't arrest him for being one.
Or:
Midoriya Izuku ends up becoming a vigilante. Featuring Eraserdad, a very tired Tsukauchi, and Mic being the sanest adult here.

After Molly Weasley reports shocking abuse on the part of Petunia and Vernon Dursley, Albus Dumbledore makes an official decision to Turn A Blind Eye. After all, the Dursleys *are* the key to Harry's Blood Wards. Though McGonagall is appalled, she is ultimately unwilling to take a stand against Albus.
Enraged at this dual neglect, Severus Snape decides to take matters into his own hands. Little does he know that his attempts to modify Harry's Blood Wards will result in *accidentally adopting* The Boy Who Lived. Shocked and horrified, Severus is left with no choice but to move forward as best he can. After all, there's no use crying over spilled potions. . .
This fic is set just after the Weasley siblings rescue Harry from the barred window/canned soup/cat flap situation in Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets. It is broadly inspired by many of my favorite Snape/Harry Adoption Fics, which I have gathered into the collection Snape_Harry_FoundFamily. Thanks, all y'all, for creating such delightful fics.
