“But he’s Buck,” Theo explains, pushing a small finger into Buck’s chest, as if to show Tommy exactly who Buck was. “Everyone calls him Buck.”
Tommy’s face relaxes slightly as he answers, “yes, that’s true, but—”
“Everyone!” Theo cuts Tommy off, holding up his hand as he begins to count on his fingers. “Me, Chris, Auntie Hen and Karen, Uncle Chimney, Ravi—”
Once he runs out of fingers on his one hand, he looks up at Buck, realization dawning on his face. “Aunt Maddie calls you Evan!” He exclaims, almost shouts in Buck’s face, eyes comically wide at this, apparently very important, piece of information.
Buck nods. “Yes, she does. Sometimes.”
“Aunt Maddie does, sometimes.” Theo reiterates to Tommy, his eyes narrowing as he cocks his head to the side, thinking. “Wait— Eddie does too! But only sometimes. Like less sometimes than Aunt Maddie. I think? But Eddie is Eddie, so it’s different.”
Tommy can’t help the snort he lets out, “you’re right about that, kid.”
Or, Buck runs into his ex at the grocery store, which forces Buck to confront feelings he's been ignoring for far too long.

"You ... you have a boyfriend."
It should have been weirder to hear that. He should have been surprised or even shocked, in denial. But it just feels - right.
Like a piece clicking into place that he didn't even know was missing.
"I - um... yeah?"
"Yeah." Maddie says, taking his hand in hers.
And suddenly it all made sense.
Of course.
Eddie.
When Buck loses his memories, he is back to his 26-year-old self.
All he remembers is how he hated Eddie Diaz.
But now his sister tell him he's come out as bi and his boyfriend is a firefighter?Wow.
He knew he couldn't have hidden his crush on the other man for long. He's appearantly now got a little family of his own and he couldn't be happier with his boyfriend and their son.
That is, until he learns his boyfriend's name is Tommy.Not Eddie.

Eddie has always wanted a romcom relationship. That moment you lock eyes, face flustered, hands shaking, and just know you've found the one. Well what would that truly look like for him, would he be so deep in love, no words would be exchanged. Or would this person truly understand him without saying a single thing. Never did Eddie imagine he'd meet his dream man in such a weird, but honestly cute, way.
