Summary
Peter’s just trying to live his life—his very normal life. If that involves being yelled at by J. Jonah Jameson in between interning with Dr. Connors and trying to convince his landlord not to evict him… well, that’s just fine.
But when a surprise run-in with the Hulk leads to an estranged Tony Stark showing up at his door, he finds himself in the middle of a mess he was very much trying to avoid.
Because 3 years ago, Peter Parker cut all ties and left New York.
3 years ago, Spider-Man disappeared.
And as Peter is being dragged back into a world he’d rejected, he finds himself caught in between his deeply ingrained beliefs about responsibility... and a crippling fear of what he left behind.

Peter had always known they weren’t well off.
He wasn’t stupid, even when he was small. He knew that May clipped coupons, that she hesitated before putting name brands in the cart, that sometimes the milk was watered down just a little bit more than it had been the week before. He knew that when other kids at school talked about vacations or “just ordering food,” it wasn’t something he could casually chime in about.
But knowing was different than sitting at the kitchen table, shoulders hunched over a stack of envelopes with big red letters screaming OVERDUE across the front.

Summary
AU. Nineteen year old Peter Parker has worked for SHIELD ever since he had a run-in with Nick Fury over alien technology a couple of years ago.
When Tony Stark and Happy Hogan are injured in an attack that uses unfamiliar alien tech, Peter is assigned by Fury as their bodyguard and informant. He has one rule he tells himself on missions. Or, well, one rule with three sub-sections: get in and out, stay alert, and do not get attached. (That last sub-section holds more weight than the others — by about forty percent, give or take.)
Morgan Stark — and, apparently, the rest of the Avengers, along with people he's tried to leave behind — are making the last part of that rule very difficult for him. Oh, and it turns out that Tony Stark isn't as big of an asshole as everyone makes him out to be. Who knew?

Happy stepped in front of Peter, "Are you here on your own accord?" He glanced at Tony with clear distrust, which was slightly fair in all honesty. Peter kept his face bored, raising an eyebrow. Happy faltered for a second before doubling down. "I mean it, I will take you home right now, we can call May." It struck him funny, how no one had any idea how much his world had warped upon itself in such a short time.
How long would it have taken them to notice May had moved, to notice how Peter's world was burning down around him if he didn't fuck up?
"Thanks, dude," the nickname would have gotten a scoff or some light threat in the past, but Happy only watched him. "I can make my own choices, grown man rights and all that. But A for effort, stepping in for the little guy." Peter made his words sharp, clapping sarcastically.
"Peter, I owe you a massive apology, I just need you to-"
"Don't give a flying fuck, keep it." He threw up a peace sign, shoving his hands into his pockets again as he wandered towards Tony, unbothered. Stark was watching him with an expression that told Peter that he didn't recognize him at that moment. But Peter didn't care, they could both eat dirt. He was done with them.
