Summary
Hermione Granger learned Legilimency to save Harry Potter. She never meant to hear Draco Malfoy at all.
But one morning in the Great Hall she found herself in the mind of the boy who spent five years calling her a slur, not a plot, or a plan, or a Dark Lord's orders but what felt like worship.
It was a boy who had loved her since a train ride at eleven years old, and who was walking, alone, toward something that was going to kill him.
She told herself it was principle. She told herself it was pity. She told herself, for years, that it wasn't anything at all, except that it was.
So she listened. She lied to her best friends. She robbed the minds of Death Eaters in the dark. She built a defense for a boy who did not know he needed one, out of stolen memories and hundreds of years of pureblood law.
And when the war ended she walked into a Ministry holding cell and offered Lucius Malfoy a life debt and let him believe he had outplayed her.
He believed it for nine years.

He worried whether the value of the galleon would hold against the pound, and if Honeydukes might stop stocking the lemon lollies she liked if he didn’t order enough of them to supply a small country.
He worried that Mungo’s hadn’t stocked enough burn salve for the upcoming Beltane festivities, and that his murtlap essence might have spoiled by the time they realized as much.

Undersecretary Parvati Patil will step in as Interim Minister for six weeks while Minister Granger takes a short period of maternity leave.
“I look forward to welcoming my little one, and acting as both Minister for Magic and mum. I plan to be fully contactable during my leave, and will resume all ministerial duties upon my return.”
The Minister will not be disclosing the identity of the child’s father at this time.
