I was the sun and the wind and the water and the dirt and I was in a prison and I was the prison. I feel like I’m blindfolded, now, without that sense of the world, but also everything is so bright and loud and close and I hardly know how I’m managing to speak to you when my skin is feeling wind for the first time in a century. It’s…” she trails off, her words failing her, which is infuriating because she’s a scholar, she’s good at words. “It’s a lot,” she finishes awkwardly, for lack of anything better to say.

Summary

Everything is already so complicated,” Izuna finally said, his gaze distant and pinched. “We don’t know if we can trust any of them, but now they’re moving into our backyards? We’re supposed to break bread with them and pretend they didn’t kill our brothers?”
Madara had heard these arguments before, usually shouted, but now Izuna sounded adrift, as though his prior convictions were abstract compared to the concrete reality around him.

"Senju Tobirama," someone said, voice low and amused. "How very generous of you to come to us."
A boot connected sharply with his ribs, flipping him onto his back with a wet crack. Pain exploded through him, sharp enough to rip the world apart for one blinding instant. Still, Tobirama bared his teeth in something close to a smile.
If they expected him to beg, they'd have to do far worse. They could tear him apart, snap every bone, carve the Senju name from his very flesh. It would not matter.
