    Summary

Dr. Ryland Grace is an odd man.

When Eva Stratt first approaches the man, he's not alone.

She was under the impression that he had no loved ones, but the way that he looks at the man casually lounging on his desk, his face obscured from his dark hair cascaded in front of it, with such fond adoration, Stratt realizes that rather her sources were incorrect or this is a new development.

(OR: Grace and Simon time travel together to where it all began)

    Summary

Simon didn’t expect his savior to be exactly his type.

What a welcome sight. Even if this stupidly handsome man ends up being evil, or working for the C.O.I, at least he’d die looking at something good.

    or

Grace and Rocky find Simon's ship floating in deep space on their way to Erid.

    Summary

“No word in Eridian. Human Earth thing. Explain.”

Ryland thinks back, then – oh. Ohhhh. Oh God. “What, Jesus Christmas?”

    “Yes. Yes yes yes.”

    “Ohhhhh boy,” says Ryland.

Admittedly, he kinda wants to have this conversation. Not because he’s looking forward to bumbling through a terrible explanation of the thousand Gods that humans have worshipped over the centuries, but he’s curious to know if Eridians worship anything. If they have ancient theories about the origins of the universe that morphed into a way of life over the years. Where that might’ve come from.

Alien theology might’ve been the number-one priority of some human scientists and biologists, and maybe he should’ve asked about this before he sent the Beetles off, but – hey. This is just for him. Besides, he’s flying to Erid. It’ll be good to know cultural customs before he lands and says something that accidentally offends a whole alien religion, or something. Because that’s something he would 100% manage to do.

    “What.”

    “Rocky, do Eridians have religion?”

    Summary

“Big news! Statement.” Rocky chimes brightly.

    “Okaaaay. Lay it on me.”

“Two things. First thing.” Rocky begins, holding one arm up, “Eridian crew return safe and sound from mission!”

    “That’s great!” He nods.

Rocky holds up a second arm.

“Second thing: Eridian crew find strange moon. No landmasses. Consisted entirely of an ocean of blood.”

    “That is...decidedly not great."

    Summary

They both crave contact, one a sinner at the fount of the divine and the other a coward faced with a fighter.
Grace is beautiful, forged from starlight and soft cloth and every good thing. He loves to explore and learn and his hands are so gentle that when he works on Simon, it doesn’t even feel like dissection. It’s the feather-light brush of divinity on his skin.
God took Adam’s rib, touched mankind once and never again. How lucky is Simon, a sinner, Son of Eden and cast in Cain’s image, to touch the divine every day?
