Summary
Essek came to the shelter simply hoping to be able to breathe again. He doesn't dream at being healed or reintroduced to society as if nothing happened. He just wants to be able to get through a whole day without worrying about a panic attack or nightmares plaguing his sleep, without recoiling from closeness and feigning arrogance instead of being open.
He can't even begin to imagine what must be going through Bren's mind, coming here for the third time in the last ten years. Why is he back if he's already been living on the outside for years now? Does anyone ever truly get their lives back? Or is it just people like Bren that fail to do so- people like Essek?

Summary
“You took his spot.”
Hen's voice was gentle.
Gentler than Buck thought he'd ever heard it.
“Him and Sal were the team before you.”
Buck frowned.
“Sal?”
The name sounded familiar.
Then it clicked.
His eyes darted toward the memorial wall visible from the loft.
“The guy in the memorial?”
...
The truck bombing happened preseason 1 with Tommy being the victim.

WRITTEN AS PART OF THE ROUGH TRADE CHALLENGE - NOVEMBER 2021
“Jon, I need to tell you something before our guests arrive. Something important. Something I probably should’ve told you long ago…”
“Uncle?”
He’d never seen his uncle look so grave before, as though the weight of the world had suddenly been placed upon his shoulders.
“Gods, you look more and more like her every day,” his uncle choked out confusingly, reaching up with one hand to brush a wayward curl out of Jon’s eye. Jon felt something akin to dread begin to pool in his stomach. “It’s time you learned the truth of where you came from, of your true parentage...”
“…I don’t understand…”
“Jon, it’s time for you to know who your mother was…”
