Summary
“Come through here,” Halandil Fang says, gesturing him into the house.
It is odd, but nice. He looks very much like Thjazi. He does not sound, or move, like Thjazi at all. Similar enough to be comfortable and apart enough not to tug rough stitches in Azune’s heart loose again, ones that he had to put there now the Banner are all to be separated. Halandil moves with an elegant lethargy that Azune associates with the older soldiers he’s known, a certain economy of movement. Gentler than the old soldiers, of course. A bit more flourish maybe. That too.
(In which Hal loves all his children, including the one that Thjazi posted to his doorstep one day without any warning.)

Summary
In which it is a truth universally acknowledged that Azune Nayar is bad at self-preservation but good at taking orders, and over the years many of the people who hold him dear have used the second fact to their advantage.
*
That seems to be the end of the conversation as far as Azune is concerned, but isn't for Hal. He cannot sit peaceful with the idea that a momentary careless gesture on his part could have Azune walking into the fire, figuratively or... not.
"Not exactly what I am used to," Hal tries. "You've met my children, my family, and I work with actors. Any person I have tried to give an instruction to in my entire life has argued back."
"I will not do that," Azune promises, like it's nothing. Given the circumstances, it is one of the least reassuring things Hal has ever heard.

Summary
They say the stage remembers every word ever spoken upon it.
Bolaire remembers too; the curve of Hal’s smile, the warmth of his hand before it was gone, the sound of his laughter echoing in an empty theater. So he writes a play that is not merely a play, but a prayer. Each line an invocation, each movement a spell, each heartbeat a plea to make this love that encompasses him eternal.
This is devotion made flesh.
This is Bolaire, on his knees, before the man who once held his heart and holds it still.

Summary
Plans are afoot. Dire, cruel, and absolute. The Lord Tachonis wishes your House gone.
An attack planned on the Palazzo. All courtiers, generals, scions to be murdered, their corpses claimed for legions of undead. No word on a timeline, of course. Primus Tachonis could be coming for them today, or tomorrow, or sometime next week.
So there was no time to waste. The scales of power are tilting in Dol-Makjar. If one Sundered House has to tumble from them to even out the balance...well, so be it.
That House will not be Aranessa's own.
***
Aranessa Royce orchestrates a murder, cleans up the evidence, and tries to go to sleep.

Summary
Occtis has started to keep notes on Julien Davinos with hope that he might at least minimise how much offense he causes by, well, existing. He keeps them in his head, because he’s not stupid, and he knows that one of the things that would cause offense would be keeping notes on Sir Julien Davinos.
