Arthur slowly sits down in front of Merlin, crossing his legs and folding his hands in his lap. The fire lights the space behind Arthur, but casts faint shadows upon him as he sits in front of the dimming light. “Then, why don’t you tell me what’s happening to the sorcerers in Essetir…”
“Why do you care what’s happening to sorcerers?” Merlin snaps before he can stop himself. He starts to wonder at this point if someone had laced his supper with truth potion earlier that evening. He knows it’s impossible, as he would be confessing a multitude of things had that happened, but gods it feels like it with how he can’t seem to control his tongue tonight.

Well, when Arthur wants to know what’s going on with magic users in Merlin’s home kingdom, a few extra discoveries follow to both his and Merlin’s surprise.

Summary
Knowing was one thing – but understanding that knowledge was a whole other experience. You could hear things like ‘Merlin fought Nimueh’ or ‘he was tortured by Morgana and had a fomorroh placed in his neck’ and ‘he survived a serket sting’ without ever really thinking past the sheer power and magic he had to possess and use to come through those events. Arthur had been angry, he had felt betrayed, and he had thought that knowing everything meant that he understood.
