Flins felt despair clawing its way through his chest as Illuga spoke, tearing him into confused ribbons. He wanted, more than anything, to give his name to Illuga right then and there. He didn't want to be Flins the Ratnik to Illuga, or even Flins the Friend, and that was the problem. He wanted to be Kyryll, Illuga's lover. Kyryll, Illuga's protector. Kyryll, Illuga's heart, soul, breath. Would it be okay? Could he even allow himself this indulgence, to consider himself Illuga's best friend, when he was so greedy at his core? Wouldn't it be terrible to decline Illuga's invitation for a deeper connection because it wasn't deep enough?

“Once we sat together on the roof of the highest tower in Snezhnograd and watched the northern lights. He said then that we would be friends forever. Silly, isn't it? Fae live for centuries, but friendship turned out to be more fragile than human life.”
Illuga gently touches his cheek, turning Flins to face him.
“Wouldn’t you want to try to forgive him?”
Flins raises an eyebrow in surprise.
“Forgive him? After he called you a lower race, grabbed me by the ears, and threatened to destroy you?”
“He threatened because he’s in pain,” Illuga says calmly. “I see it, Flins. He doesn’t hate you. He’s angry because you left. Because you both chose different sides, and he lost the one who was dearest to him.”
While traveling through Snezhnaya, Flins runs into an old acquaintance with whom he had a falling out centuries ago. Illuga attempts to reconcile them.
Successful, it must be admitted.

Varka smells something. Just for a split second. Not the damp smell of the cave, nor of the smoke wafting off the crackling fire. It’s a soft scent, cloyingly sweet, and he finds himself desperately sniffing at the air for more.
Then it hits him.
Varka’s eyes widen.
“Are you in heat?”
Staff shortages require Varka and Lohen to take on a mission in Dragonspine. Things go fine, until they're forced to take shelter amid a blizzard.
