Summary
Ever since Christmas the year she turned 10, and met Luke, it's been Rey and her adopted Dad against the world.
But now, as she goes to College, and insists that he goes back to work flying overseas, she fully expects to have to make the trek from Seattle to New York every Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring break to stay with her Aunt. That is, until her new best friend Grogu offers for her to spend the holidays with him and his Dad, Mando.
By the time her last year of school rolls around, it's clear that she's got a second family; quite the development for an ex-foster kid.
But this year, Christmas is different. Not only is she dealing with the uncertainty of her impending graduation, the nebulous feelings between her and her other friend Rose; but Dad is coming back stateside for the holidays for the first time in 4 years, and Mando has said he can stay in spite of the fact they’ve never met. All of her worlds colliding?
Rey has a bad feeling about this.

There is an agonizing moment where DIn feels Luke’s body tense beneath him, his muscles flexing in a way that makes him sure Luke is about to punch or at least push him away, but then something shifts behind Luke’s eyes, as if he recognized the fear in Din's, and before Din can form another coherent thought Luke crushes their lips together and kisses him as if his life depends on it.

Din’s words appear a few months after the attack on his village, after he had been taken in and adopted by the Mandalorians and the grief was still thick in his throat. He doesn’t know, at first, that they are there at all, until his baji’buir looks at him, her golden buy’ce tilted, and says, quietly, “I believe you have your words, ad.” She hands him a piece of shining beskar to use as a mirror, and sure enough, curled under his left ear in a slanting script, there they are. Two words: I am.

Just before his eyes slip closed, he sees something else overlaid on what he can actually see — a flash of silver, shining and beautiful. Something in Luke’s heart sings, for just a second, and he hears the Force whispering ‘ this one.’ He strains, trying to see more, but he can’t hold on, and drops down into unconsciousness.
