Summary
Every year the mating run comes around, and every year Daeron tries his hardest to avoid any and all attention. His only hope is to pass unnoticed and go another year without being caught and mated. Aerion, on the other hand, enjoys taunting every alpha present; challenging them all to catch them if they can. Valarr, Daeron's favourite cousin, is finally forced to take part. Daeron has always felt safe with Valarr, comforted by his presence alone... but nothing is certain in the mating run and sometimes, friends become enemies, allies become foes and cousin hunts cousin.

Daeron had many hopes that would never come true. For the dreams to just stop. For his father to not look at him with such obvious disappointment. For his scent to turn into something even remotely bearable.
Valarr was the most foolish hope of them all.
It did not stop Daeron from longing, from indulging whenever Valarr was close, fool that he was and always would be.

Daeron stared at him, gaping a moment. He closed his mouth, and tried to ignore the upset look that washed over Valarr.
“Did —” Daeron couldn’t believe it, his mouth twitching for a surprised smile. “You tampered with the lottery?”
“Would that upset you?” Valarr’s eyes were firm. “If I did?”
“Did you?”Every year there are Seven Courting balls to join together all the eligible omegas and alphas from the Realm. It is said, if you are paired with the same partner seven times then you were fated together by the Gods.

"What is your plan?" Valarr then asked. "Where will you run?"
"Nowhere," Daeron replied. He felt the sudden shift in Valarr's scent at that, thunder and heavy rain, scent heavy and oppressive. Even like this it was the best thing Daeron had ever smelt. "I will not run. I will hide instead."
"Somebody might track you down," Valarr said. "Somebody would have to want to track me down," Daeron replied. "I am not worth such effort."
(Forced into a mating hunt Daeron has no interest in, he plans to just hide himself away. Valarr thwarts those plans.)
