He allows his foot to hover over the empty air. He peels his mask off, and his eyes begin to tear up as the dirty Gotham wind blows into them.

I wish someone would do that to me.

    Summary

"Bruce!" Rang out from down the hallway in Jason's baritone voice, "Do you have that file of—"

    "Jay!"

    "Aw, shit."

Bruce turned the corner, a smile tugging at his lips when he laid eyes on the scene in front of him.

Jason was standing still in the hall, helmet dangling from one hand and a thick folder grasped in the other, staring down at the small vampire who had latched onto his pant leg with a defeated look. Beside the pair, Dick was leaning against the wall, lightly teasing Jason.

Bruce, along with everyone else in the manor, had no idea what had started Damian's obsession with Jason. From the very first time Jason and Damian had come into contact, like a moth to a flame, Damian could be found within a foot of Jason, always trying his hardest to be held or to just cling to him.

    Summary

Steph, in a way, was much like Bruce. They were both children no one had asked for, begging and demanding that someone, who otherwise had nothing to do with them, take on the burden of wanting them.

Except she had been lucky; all of them were.

That in spite of everything, Steph had never wondered if wanting hands would catch her if she should fall.

So no, she will absolutely not hold back, nor will she even try to restrain the rest of the Wayne children who are equally ready to go to war for the man who took them in and called them his, regardless of the blood in their veins or what name they went by.

Because no matter the circumstances that led to a child's existence, they should never have to wonder if they will fall asleep safe and wake up loved.

    Isn't that right, Alfred Pennyworth?

    Summary

Damian Al-Ghul does not get sick.

He is the son of the Batman.
    Heir to the Demon’s Head.
The future of the Bat mantle, the pride of his parents, the successor his brothers watch with wary admiration.

    He does not get sick.

Not when he goes under in the Gotham harbor.
Not when filthy water fills his lungs and drags him down.
Not when he drags himself home, bruised and shaking.
Not when the fever blooms behind his eyes the next morning.

    No.
Because Damian Al-Ghul does not get sick.
Sickness is weakness, and Damian Al-Ghul is never weak.

    …right?

He's not sick. Not when the fever climbs, when breathing becomes a battle he can’t win alone, when the river’s infection sinks its teeth into his lungs and blood- No. He's fine.

Damian Al-Ghul does not get sick. That would imply weakness. And he is an unstoppable, invincible, ten-year-old war assassin- …who maybe, possibly, hypothetically should not be coughing like that. Or swaying like that. Or unable to get up anymore. No.

Because Damian Al-Ghul doesn’t get sick.

(Except, apparently… Damian Wayne does. He absolutely does.)
