Summary
Susie doesn’t care about anything or anyone but the Legion. Frank, Joey, and Julie are her best friends in this or any world, and she’ll do anything it takes to keep them in her life. Nobody else matters to her.
But then she meets a weird goth girl in one of the trials, and for some reason she can’t stop thinking about her.
Her spiralling thoughts lead to transgressive actions that go against everything the Legion and the Entity expect of her. But the more Susie pulls away from them, the more she wonders if they were ever good for her in the first place.

Zoey leaned into the touch, drawing warmth from it.
"They're hiding something," she said, voice tiny and scared. "Rumi wants to tell us. Celine doesn't. Promise not to say or do anything until I like, explain everything I heard?"
Mira blinked, "That bad? Okay. I promise."
Or Zoey overhears an argument between Rumi and Celine and the girls concoct a plan to get Rumi to admit her secret.

It’s not until later when they are freshly showered and dressed comfortably in their pj’s, take out boxes in hand while they watch their nineteenth rewatch of Grey's Anatomy (Mira’s favourite), that Rumi finds the courage to bring up just what had been circling her mind since...since-
“Were…were you two serious…about what you said…earlier.”
Zoey’s chopsticks pause halfway to her mouth, and Mira quickly turns the sound of the TV down.
“You’re going to need to be a little more specific than that Princess.” Mira says, leaning back on the sofa and slipping her fingers between Rumi’s and giving them a light squeeze.
“About...you know. Denying me. Properly. For longer.”
