That was the name of his temporary pilot. Lastimosa had died and handed the controls over to his little soldier apprentice, which at first brought him muffled annoyance. A regular soldier would likely take him to an early grave, completely unskilled at operating such a behemoth, taking full advantage of the pilot's capabilities or simply acting as they did. It would be much more convenient if there was some trained pilot around, but there's no choice, and Lastimosa has decided everything for him.

The officer whose voice Spider recognised had his knee pressed into Spider’s back, but as Spider stopped writhing, he relinquished his weight and helped Spider sit up against the wall.
“Shit,” Spider said, throwing his head back and closing his eyes.
“I recognise you,” officer Quaritch said slowly, tilting his head to the side. “You’re that kid without a name or address.”
OR
Spider has been doing the best he can since his mom died when he was seven years old. With no other family to take care of him, he was handed over to the care system until he couldn't take it any more, eventually deciding he was better off on his own. But this life has led him down a worrying path, one that gets darker the further down he goes. As fate would have it, it also leads him to one person who could turn his life around.
This is a oneshot only - additional chapters are alternate POVs and bonus scenes.

Summary
It was a slow thing, the way Arthur began to shut down and shut people out. He’d always been one to keep to himself and not talk about his feelings, unless those feelings were of anger. The ladies around camp would convince him to sit and talk for a bit, about deeper things, but he’d brushed them all off anymore.
He knew he was getting bad again. There was usually a few years in between his severe bouts of depression, allowing Arthur to feel normal for a while and think maybe it wouldn’t happen again and maybe he’d stay happy this time. He never did.
