    Summary

    “Maeda, am I..wrong?”

Yuki wasn’t sure what to do. Kinjo… needed him right now, but what could he say? ‘We’ll get out of this together’? ‘I’m sure escape is just around the corner’? It was utter shallow hope in any fashion. Why should he have to reassure this protector turned tyrant?

The ginger’s despondency turned into anger funneled into a different direction, right towards this conversation. It seemed he couldn’t be quiet anymore, so he balled his fists and exclaimed.

“Y-yes Kinjo, yes. Of course you’re wrong!!”

    -

Or: Yuki manages to keep his head on and talk some sense into Kinjo. Things turn out very differently.

    Spoilers for DRA ahead
    ___________________________
    ~
Tsurugi Kinjo does not get to see his friend's face replace Monokuma's on the screen.

He doesn't witness Rei and Teruya coming back to themselves.

He can't flee from the courtroom beside them as Akane Taira bleeds out on the floor.

And when the helicopter lifts off, he isn't onboard.

    Instead, he is left behind.
    ~

Tsurugi wakes to find himself still trapped on the island they vowed to escape from together. A castaway.

However, he isn't alone. Whether that is lucky, or unlucky, remains to be seen...
    ______________________________

Two people are left alone together after the events of the killing game finally conclude. One finally without the curse that defined him, and the other broken, battered, and alone. Both are haunted by the past, yet long for something that they surely don't deserve to have.

This story takes place not long after the the conclusion of the killing game. For the most part, that ending is the same as in canon. Except for a few changes which lead to the events in this story.

    Summary

“Tsurugi, don't…” Yuki’s voice is feeble, and he suddenly uses Kinjo’s first name. “Don't tell anyone, please.” No one? What on earth happened? Yuki watches his face with shaky hands. I've never seen him so scared before.

Tsurugi curls his fingers a little closer around his friend’s trembling body.

“Okay.” He agrees. “I won't.” Yuki sinks into his palm, but his body is still tense and shaky. "You're safe now.” Tsurugi promises his friend resolutely.

Tsurugi wanders the halls at night, searching for a missing classmate, desperately hoping not to find another body. What he discovers instead is wholly unexpected... and very, very small.

    Summary

Kim Hajin is a failure. There's no two ways to look at that objective truth. It's a truth that resonates through how others look at and ridicule him. It's a truth that echoes infinitely inside his head, compounding and doubling down on his inadequacies. It's a truth, despite the unconditional love of two parents that soothe but cannot dispel those haunting doubts.

Kim Suho is simply perfection. The desperate vessel and ideal of Hajin's "ifs" and wishes. Because Kim Suho, the protagonist of Hajin's novel, is everything Hajin wants to be for his parents and more. But, that story falls apart at the seams the same way Hajin has lost faith in himself.

Yet, as the common narrative dictates, everything begins anew with an innocuous email requesting to remake Hajin's novel.

    ***

Alternatively, the extremes of Korean culture break Kim Hajin into someone who feels much more acutely, and everything shifts to the left.
