"Sara had managed not to cry all day. The entire service - eulogy, the whole decorated veteran tribute with the bagpipes and the flag, everything. She had been fine. But now, Ava Sharpe walking into the damn garage and looking at Nate like they were friends - of course that did it.
They were friends. They were friends because it had been five years since Sara had been in this city, since she’d properly hung out with any of them, since she knew what was going on in their lives. And apparently, in five years, Nate and Ava had become friends.
