Summary
In the horrifying wake of the Temple sacking, Obi-Wan finds four precious younglings still alive, and flings himself into the Force on a wish and a prayer, hoping to find a place of safety for them all. Beautiful piece! Thoughtful approaches to SW characters and their issues, as well as a look into what a Watchbeing sent to a sector might do. I adore the logistics, I adore the kids, and the fighting scenes were nicely described without being overly-detailed. Jedi Knight Feemor is on Toprawa, having just finished a mission with the Antarian Rangers before heading back to Coruscant for the first time in years. He has a busted arm from his mission, but only fractures and some strained tendons, nothing crazy, and spends the next day on paperwork and a healing trance. Nothing unusual, in the life of a Watchman.
The next morning, his arm is worse than when he went to bed. His mission reports are entirely unsubmitted. No drafts exist. The fruit he ate yesterday is still in the bowl. What. The. Fuck.

Arc 1 (complete): Quinlan finagles a favor out of the Mand'alor, and promptly cashes it in for a clanmate who has gone missing on Bandomeer. The Order dispatches Master Koon to assist, and in the mines Obi-Wan makes friends with Arla Fett.
Arc 2 (complete): Obi-Wan calls the Mandalorians instead of the Order for aid on Melida / Daan. In the Temple, his exit from the Order causes upheaval in the Council and plotting from his closest friends.
Arc 3 (complete): Obi-Wan returns to Temple life after the war, his padawan status up in the air and his trauma too obvious to ignore.

When Obi-Wan got back from Naboo, things were...different. The Jedi council had never been so cold to him, but his friends were the same as ever. Grappling with the death of his Master and the young boy he'd promised to raise, he didn't have much time to reflect on it. If he fought hard against the rising darkness, he could beat it back and only use the light. If he closed his eyes in front of the mirror, he didn't have to see their new yellow color. If he just ignored it, it would all go away.
Right?(Obi-Wan kills Maul on Naboo. This changes everything and nothing.)

I don't usually like modern settings for fantasy or sci-fi fics, but this? This was SO WELL DONE. Not only is the sex emotive and complex and evocative, which you should always expect in an E rated work imo, but the worldbuilding was vague enough to be anywhere, while still being places we recognized. Mandalorians are a people, no matter where they live. Jedi carry their faith to wherever they travel. And none of the machines involved get explicitly described, so Rex's moving trucks and Yoda's license and Obi-Wan's flight ... they all could be any modern OR futuristic machinery. That is the sign of an author who is aware of reader optics, and of the ability of a story to age well.
In the end, I think I've just been trusting the wrong authors with modern settings. If they were all like this, I'd be happy!

Rael leveled a finger between Feemor’s stunned eyes. “It wasn’t Qui-Gon alone who trained you, Dooku was proud to call you lineage. You’re good and damn well stuck with us, tough shit to Qui-Gon’s wounded ego.”
Obi-Wan gathered his courage from his talk with Cin the night before and tapped his boot against Feemor’s again. “Guess it’s brothers after all.” He felt his heart throb in his throat, but the warm expression melting over Feemor’s face had the fear sliding off of Obi-Wan’s shoulders.
“I guess so.” They made twin noises of distress when Rael draped his arms over each of their necks and yanked them into an uncomfortable three way hug with the table in the way.
“This is a bad idea.”
Feemor let his grin grow, his turn to tap Obi-Wan’s foot. “A very bad idea.”
“The best idea!” crowed Rael, and the Force didn’t disagree.

What I love the most about finding new authors to follow is being lucky enough to find ones that spend time worldbuilding where everyone else has skipped. The refectory and the people who work there, or the kyber crystal vaults, or the creches and training salles. This one? This one is building a compelling, world-shattering story about parenthood, flawed family, and the mysteries that one might find in the galaxy, if only you listen to the Force.

Summary
If you could choose a world to be isekaied into, you probably wouldn't choose the videogame Age of Tales.
It's a painfully generic medieval RPG with a very generic "farm boy becomes a hero" storyline. Or farmgirl, if you go that route. There's some moral choices, but overall the story is very linear from start to finish, and no matter how evil you try to play it, the game inevitably ends with the chosen farmboy (or girl) saving the world. Age of Tales has a very generic cast of characters with very generic backstories, even more generic villains with very basic evil plots, and side quests right out of early free to play mmorpgs. Overall the game is just very… mid.
Upon release the game was a massive flop.
And Katie has happily sunk nearly six hundred hours into it.
