But then Eddie saw a whole pile of kids get in Harrington’s car, and he overheard Nancy Wheeler say that “Steve was babysitting,” and that image didn’t even remotely align with anything Eddie knew about King Steve “The Hair” Harrington, but he figured he didn’t know much, anyway, and it wasn’t any of his business, when it came down to it.
Eddie thought so little of it, in fact, that he had almost forgotten that Max had apparently been babysat by one Steve Harrington. That is, until Steve Harrington started showing up at the trailer park, picking up Max and driving away, and then Eddie wouldn’t see Max at home again for days on end.
Eddie didn’t know much about babysitting, but he was pretty sure the gigs were more of an hourly thing.

Eddie was an enigma, even when he was being his usual gentle, adorable self. There was a darker side to Eddie that was incredibly enticing, one that Steve wanted to experience.
Eddie was holding back, and Steve wanted to see him fully unleashed.

Summary
Steve barely survived imprisonment, torture, and the Battle of Starcourt. He was left with too many slowly healing injuries, including one to his brain. He hated having to be babied and cared for while he recovered from his concussion. It might be the brain damage speaking, but a lot of the symptoms don’t make any sense to him. What does an increased risk of impulsivity even mean? On top of all that, the more he talks to Robin, the more he starts to question his sexuality.
He gets a crash course in the complications and side effects of a concussion when he’s down to his last hundred dollars and desperate to figure himself out. He goes to Eddie Munson’s trailer, hoping to score some weed and seduce the possibly gay drug dealer, but concussions are a real bitch, and instead, he ends up paying Eddie all of his remaining money to give the guy a blowjob.
That one moment of misunderstanding and poor impulse control starts a year-long back-and-forth between the two men; as Steve comes to understand his sexuality, Eddie comes to realize his worth, and they learn what it means to get what they want.

Summary
Now look, Eddie has never claimed to be the world’s nicest guy. He’s often claimed the opposite, in fact, in the name of getting shithead bullies and jocks to leave him and his alone.
And Harrington is no saint, either. Sure, he’s turned over some kind of new leaf since last year, ditching the assholes he used to hang out with and mostly keeping to himself (particularly since November, when his busted face had been the talk of Hawkins High), but he’s been part of enough sportsball-related hazing rituals for Eddie to assume he can at least take a joke.
Anyway, the point is, when he’s given occasion to realize that King Steve seems to be afraid of the dark, Eddie isn’t quite able to resist the urge to poke at him. Just a little.

This story has taken a major turn, so new a summary is in order.

Eddie followed the plan at the end of S4 and lived without being attacked. While the world around them is trying to heal, Steve and Eddie become a little distracted with each other.
In a way, they respect each other, but that doesn't mean they're friends. Eddie views Steve as an annoying, pompous rich kid, and Steve sees Eddie as a nerdy try-hard. They clash in just about every way, intentionally and unintentionally getting under each other's skin.
An impulsive move from Eddie in the middle of a fight opens new doors for them, and Steve doesn't know what to make of it. Eddie is all for it and easily accepts the new side of himself. Steve, on the other hand, is deeply conflicted on many levels.
In order to explore this new avenue, Steve needs to protect his pride and dignity by twisting the situation to make it seem like he doesn't want any of it, even though he clearly does.
Eddie picks up on this and facilitates Steve's mental gymnastics to allow him to relax as they gradually build a complex dom/sub relationship.
And they still don't like each other.

Eddie loathes the idea of soulmates. The words his soulmate will say the moment they realize they are in love with him sit heavy on his wrist. Heavy like a burden, like a cursed prophet, harbinger of death. Others cry tears of joy when they get their words, Eddie had cried tears of anxiety. The dark letters on his wrist read, “Dustin died.”
On the other side of town and yet worlds apart from Eddie, Steve loathes the words on his wrist just as much. Not because he doesn’t want a soulmate. No, he longs for them every day. And every day is a painful reminder that he hasn’t found them yet when someone randomly calls out his words. The letters on his wrist simply say, “Hey Steve.”

Summary
Two people drawn together through the ordinary hurts of life. Predictable. Boring. Robin’s always felt that, if the universe thought that one person mattered more to her than any other—if it saw fit to give her a heart-bound lover or destined best friend or particularly important cousin—it at least owed her the courtesy of telling her in an equally dramatic way.
Why should the script stop at the players? Why not write the scenes? Or at least massage them enough that she gets to meet her chosen soulmate via, like, an arrow through the shoulder instead of a skinned knee. Something epic and scarring. Something that she can trace on her body.
(Or: Robin and Steve are soulmates in a world where you feel your soulmate's pain.)

Hop said it’s a bad habit he’s gotten himself into, these night drives. Patrolling the town when everyone’s asleep, nobody to ask the question of why Steve Harrington drives circles through Hawkins past midnight every night.
It’s nearing one a.m. and Steve sighs, because—shit. There's a van on the side of the road that wasn't there on his last lap.
He can’t drive off now. He’s already stopped. Already committed, so Steve swings his keys around his finger and sighs again. Opens the car door.
He comes to a stop a few paces away from the van. Raises his voice slightly when he says, “Hello?”
“Fucking—what, hello? What?” comes a voice from the other side of the van. “Who—jesus, if I’m about to get murdered, I swear to—wait. Harrington? Steve Harrington?”

The way he says the last part sounds strange, like it’s really important somehow that Eddie believes him.
“Okay,” he says, then adds, “Is that why you look like that?”
Eddie’s never met a fire with fists, but he wants Steve to tell him what happened—not just assume.
There’s a beat of silence, like Steve’s weighing his options, and Eddie knows a lie’s coming before Steve even opens his mouth.
“Yeah. Building caved in. We made it out—Robin and I. Paramedics checked me over and said I couldn’t drive, so I decided to walk.”
Almost ten miles, Eddie estimates. Sure. Totally normal thing to do in the middle of the night, battered and bruised, after escaping a fire.
But he’s pretty sure that’s all he’s going to get, so he settles on, “Good thing I came along, then.”
“Yeah.”

At some point, Eddie’s hand had made its way to Steve’s bad knee, massaging it gently in soothing circles. It was like magic, the way the deep ached subsided just enough for Steve’s posture to slump. He felt like putty under Eddie’s fingertips. Tension melted away from him as Eddie continued his work over his kneecap to the beginning of his thigh. He couldn’t help but close his eyes and let out a contented sigh.
“Do you want me to stop?” Eddie asked quietly.
“Huh?”
