When it was bedtime story time, when Will was leaned against the headboard, Adam leaned against him, little green Kevin leaned against Adam, the book held in front for everyone to see, Adam wasn't really paying attention to the story, instead lost in his own mind, because he had just made a decision. He wanted to know, he wanted it all. He wanted it now.
He pushed the book down mid-sentence. It and Kevin and his custom green pacifier set aside, he spun around to straddle Will's lap.

He doesn't sleep. He's far too aware of Hannibal's empty half of the bed. He can't help hearing every creak of the house. Their bed is so cold. Hannibal always runs warm.
Will thinks for a long time. He thinks about Hannibal. He tries not to think about losing him. Instead, he keeps remembering Hannibal in the fire light. Dripping with blood. His hands wrist-deep in a cadaver.
Creases on a sleeve. Smug youth. A scrawled signature.
It's stupid, Will thinks, then keeps thinking about it. Something familiar swings behind his lids. He imagines himself as an arrogant little prick, cocky and audacious and trying so very hard. How he might feel, think, move. Where he would be at what time of day.
Things go off the rails fairly quickly after that.

It started with coloring books and crayons, when Adam was 14, but now it was onesies and bedtime stories and bath time with bubbles and toys, and it quickly began to happen nearly every night. It was as fulfilling for Will as it was for Adam, so when one day the younger twin had let the word "daddy" slip past his lips, it felt as natural as any of the rest of it had.
