And though he had burned half of Westeros to claim it, it was worth it. It had to be worth it - the death, the smoke, the dragons slain and left to rot in lakes and valleys where their bones would be stolen as mythical keepsakes by the small folk and ground into powders by superstitious hedge witches. He had preserved Lucerys, an ill-gotten bastard from the loins of his whore elder sister, out of necessity. A Targaryen was a Targaryen, bastard or no, and Lucerys was an omega with dragon blood in his veins. It was worth it to keep him alive, Aemond told himself, for practicality’s sake. He was a pawn held close, useful in the right moment.
