Dean ignored the twisting feeling in his gut and sipped his hot chocolate instead. They watched reruns of scary movies while the snow raged outside. Dean was barely paying attention, too focused on Sam slumped into the pillows right next to him. Sam couldn’t hide anything from him, Dean could read him too well. So of course he noticed how Sam was holding his arm close to his chest, he noticed how pale the kid looked, how he was wrapped up to the neck in a warm blanket and still looked cold, and how silent he was.
It wasn’t like Sam to be so quiet.

Dean watched with folded arms as Sam checked his gun, pulling it apart and putting it back together again.
The plan was for Sam to go on his first hunt alone, just like Dean had when he had turned seventeen. The only difference was that Dean at seventeen was a lot like Dean now at twenty-one. Just with more muscles, basically.

Dean Winchester is a hell of a hunter, but everyone knows he's a little standoffish, a little cold. Until the night a young, shaggy-haired stranger saves him from a demon attack, leaving behind nothing but an alias, a funny looking blade, and a lot of questions.
Sam knows the only way to save the people he loves is to stay far away from them. He knows in the other timeline he ruined everything. This new life that Gabriel created is so much better for everyone. Even if it means he can never be Sam Winchester, can never be Dean's brother.
As events and memories start to echo across to the new timeline, Sam has to face who he really is and Dean has to choose who he becomes.
Exploring dropped plotlines, saving under-utilized characters, and all the chick flick moments.

Sam’s head whips toward the voice. His eyes widen. Lucifer is sitting casually in one of the visitor’s chairs, one leg crossed over the other, fingers steepled like he is settling into a show he has been waiting months to watch.
Sam doesn’t let his eyes leave that spot even as he barks orders.
“Go!” he shouts at the nurse. “You need to get out of here, now!”
The nurse raises an eyebrow. “Sam, what’s wrong?”
“He’ll kill everyone. You need to evacuate the hospital, now!”
“Who, Sam? Who’s ‘he’?”
Lucifer smirks. “Gonna tell her the devil made you do it? That I made you jump in front of that car?”
Sam lets his gaze break from the chair, just for a moment. “Y-you don’t see him?”
“See who? Sam, there is no one in here with us.”

Summary
The pencil skitters across the table, little more than an inch.
(A phantom thrill races through Sam's blood.)
“You did it!” Sam sends Jack a grin, slightly bewildered. Kid’s a fast learner. “Great job, Jack.”
Contrary to the pride Sam expects to see on Jack’s face, there is instead confusion. “That… wasn’t me.”
“What?” Sam’s gaze slides back to the pencil, the innocuous object, close enough to touch. His heart is beating in his ears, staggered, animalistic. “Then how…?”
“You didn’t tell me you had powers too!” Jack says with an excited grin, leaning forward with his elbows on the table. The Nephilim’s childish expression is floating on the edges of Sam’s vision, distorted. Everything feels far away, unreal, dimmed by the echo of pure power running through his veins.
“I don’t—shouldn’t,” he manages to stammer out. His blood is humming just like it used to, alight with the power, and Sam thinks he might throw up. “Not anymore."
Sam’s powers resurface when he tries to train Jack, and he is forced to confront a decade of shame and self-hatred. If Jack, the son of Lucifer, is good, then maybe Lucifer’s demon blood-infested vessel can be too.

"Yeah, right—" Dean begins but pauses with wide eyes when Cas presses his index and middle fingers on Sam's forehead and sends him lying unconscious on his right side. He sprints up, "Cas, what the hell?"
Cas stares at Sam, deeply tangled in guilt, "He needs sleep. While I had healed him whole in the ward, he should still sleep." He looks up, "Don't worry, he won't have any dreams. I made sure of that."
Dean's shoulders slump but his eyes remain hard. "Kid can't live like that forever. Cas, if my brother dies because of your stupidity..." Dean pauses, inhaling patience from the air.

Dean knows Sam better than he knows himself.
He could put his life on that fact.
Hell, he’s changed his diapers. Cleaned his cut knees. Taught him to drive a car. Frankly, Dean has been a major part of every stage of Sam’s life. He could pass a degree in Sam without breaking a sweat. Good, bad, everything in between.
One thing he can’t do is read Sam’s mind. More than not, he wishes he could. Peal away the masks and smiles and see what his baby brother is truly thinking from one moment to the next. What is happening in that big brain of his, Dean will never fully understand.

Bobby once thought watching two children was damn hard, turns out looking after two teenagers is a lot harder. Dean is a bear with a sore head these days, anytime Bobby sees him. Always sulking or complaining about their dad leaving them and not needing a babysitter. Bobby wishes he would stop his belly aching and just deal already. Sam, to his credit, is a quieter teen, his head stuck in some school or lore book more times than not. He seems hell bent on ignoring Dean’s complains about their dad, rolling his eyes more than once as he sinks lower into the couch, dipping his head closer to his book.
What happens when Bobby witnesses Dean hitting Sam.....Can Bobby get through to them before it's too late to come back?
