Summary
The first time Akemi Homura meets Kaname Madoka, it feels as if time stops with the way colors burst forth in her vision, assaulting her senses with an experience she never could've fathomed. A month later Akemi Homura sells her soul in a grayscale world that was full of life and color just minutes before.
The second time Akemi Homura meets Kaname Madoka, she runs up and promises to help Madoka, even as her eyes strain with getting used to color again. Her eyes only get a month to appreciate the feeling before her vision bleeds back to grayscale.
The third time, Akemi Homura is less excitable, more reserved. Her colors fade a month later as she pulls the trigger.
On the ninth loop, Akemi Homura wakes up to see her hospital room bathed in color and a tattoo on her wrist.

“You actually listened to those?” Sabo chuckles, turning onto his belly to get a better look at his friend. “I thought they were ‘boring as fuck and a complete waste of time’?”
“They are!” Ace sputters quickly, face reddening at having been caught. “It’s just- maybe we’ll need that knowledge some day, so it’s better to remember them! That’s what you always say, right? I mean it though. That one description you gave me, something about ‘sunlight spilling from him’ and ‘a crown of clouds’ and… uhm, ‘eyes the red of a dawning day’. It just works with that guy, don’t you think?”

Summary
Luffy shifts the first time when he is four. He's not sure what shifting really is - Gramps had said something, but Gramps was boring so he fell asleep listening - but the story Makino is telling him is interesting. It's about a unicorn who makes friends in the village - not like Luffy, who can't because the kids in Foosha don't like him - and Luffy feels like the unicorn is happy.
The unicorn isn't alone after all.
So between a moment and then next there's a small woosh of something and he feels different. Weird but not bad weird. Getting to his feet is hard. He just plops down in the grass - he doesn't hear Makino's little oh of surprise, her gaze going slightly fearful, slightly sharp. He doesn't know kids aren't supposed to shift so young.
He wants to whine at her to pick him up, but his sight is almost blurry and his words come out more like - well he's not very sure what, an animal perhaps but not one he heard before.
Then the woosh happens again and he's in 'Kino's lap, tired and hungry. Food becomes more important than finding out what just happened.
