Maria doesn’t mind Shadow being quiet.
When people talk, he looks up: at faces, at indicators of a command, a direction, guidance. He waits to be told what to do. Run on the treadmill; give a blood sample, squeeze the dynamometer; do a spinal tap. He’s got a voice, a memory lauded with languages, all the means and reasons to ask the what and the why.
They drain him, the researchers; yet, he doesn’t ask what for. Maybe somebody’s already told him. Or he overheard his purpose. He’s alive so she can stop dying too early, and that’s enough for a purpose for him, so he does as he’s told.
She tries to give him opportunities to just be her little brother, just do fun things with her, things that don’t hurt him. He’s always clueless what to do then. Mobian hedgehogs are a social species, much in the same way humans are. Shadow’s not very social.
She knows there’s a lot in his head that he won’t or can't say. It’s just how he is. She’s fine with that.

Bewildered and lost, the three follow them — not knowing the companions they seek are the ones their masters intend to pit them against. If blood does truly run thicker than water, what of the bonds it creates?

Summary
The last thing Giyū saw was the horrible creature known as Muzan crawling away to another part of their quickly crumbling world, taking the hashira who could still fight with him, and the bodies of those who no longer couldn't, behind him. Giyū was the latter, trying to stand up even through the sea of blood at his feet. He was dying.
Why was this happening? Wasn't the slayer mark supposed to boost his survival?
Turns out, it did. Maybe a little too well.
Fate had once again chosen the wrong person to save, Giyū thought, back in his thirteen year old body, staring at his dead childhood friend right in the face. Tanjiro would have been so much better at time travel.

Summary
Yuuji will eat this finger like all the others. He will eat it, and then he will be executed, because there won't be any fingers left.
Before he can think better of it, Megumi drops the finger into his shadow. It disappears in the blink of an eye. No trail left behind. No sign that it was ever here.
No one has to know.
