    Summary

“Wanna bet on it?” he asks.

Mydei raises a brow, then, narrows his eyes.

“Bet on what?” he asks suspiciously, not unlike how one pokes a sleeping tiger.

“Bet that you can plan better dates,” Phainon says. “That you’re a better lover.”

    Mydei scoffs.

“Against that male alpha? Any decent human being would win.”

Phainon pauses, an idea forming in his head. And it’s such a bad idea. Such a stupid idea. But, it could be fun. And Mydei has always indulged his stupid ideas.

“What about against me?” he asks.

(Phainon and Mydei have always been known for their competitions. It's the basis of their almost four year friendship. There's no reason they can't also compete over who's the better date either.)

    Summary

Phainon swallows around nothing, looking at the new boy, taking in his striking, angular face and sharp, golden eyes that never leave the Headmaster.

“Who's that?” he asks no one in particular, his voice a little breathless even in his own ears.

“Mydeimos Kremnos. You know those Kremnoses," the fourth-year standing next to him whispers back. "He's practically wizarding world royalty."

    ---
By his seventh year in Hogwarts, Phainon likes to think he’s gotten pretty good at this wizarding thing. On top of being both the Gryffindor Quidditch captain and a Prefect, he has plenty of friends and decent grades—everything he needs for a memorable but not too difficult graduation year. But when the Triwizard tournament is announced to return, and Hogwarts welcomes international guests, Phainon finds himself inexplicably drawn to Durmstrang’s would-be champion Mydeimos. When the Goblet of Fire spits out both their names, it’s sure to be an exciting year.

    Summary

“Finish the story,” Phainon prompts, and it comes out kind of quiet, kind of weird.

“He fell in love with a warrior in Okhema,” Mydei tells him, sliding a hand under his pillow. “They were equals in just about everything, and that’s… significant to a Kremnoan. He died sacrificing himself to buy that warrior time to save the city.”

“That sounds like something a hero would do to me.”

“Maybe,” Mydei grumbles. “A real hero wouldn’t leave the one he loves to fight alone.”

On a trip to see his sick sister, Phainon realizes a few things. Foremost of these: through it all, Mydei has never once left his side.

    Summary

When the Gods fell millennia ago, Phainon had fallen with them.

Now he is the last. A remnant of times long ago, a fragment of divinity cast to the mortal world and tied to the great God-Kings of Sak-Kahn-Ko. He is theirs to do as they please; to serve each father and son and son of his son, unageing, undying, unchanging. He does not see the sun rise each day. He does not see it set.

Come a springtime he can only hear in the sigh of the wind, the God-King he serves has guests to visit. Many guests, from all corners of the mapped world, there to pledge allegiance to Sak-Kahn-Ko, to bow to the one great enough to own a God.

But one guest is strange. He does not look to Phainon’s humiliation with glee or envy or pride. He does not look at all.

Mydeimos of Castrum Kremnos looks, instead, to the God-King he must bow to; and he looks with anger, at the one who owns the divine. He looks with rage.

    Summary

In his sophomore year of college, Mydei's life goes so downhill that he stops persuing his piano performance degree entirely and drops out, breaking up with his boyfriend of six months in the process so that they can both continue to follow their true dreams.

A year and a half later, Mydei practically has everything he could possibly want: a feature with the biggest pop star in the world, a band that healed him from the darkest parts of his life, and one hit that he pretends he doesn't hate. He hasn't touched a piano in years and it's the happiest he's ever been, so why can't he shake the feeling that he's missing something?
