Soda is too sick to sleep with and Darry comes home super late from work completely exhausted. He passes out on the couch without even taking off his shoes.
Ponyboy was still awake in the kitchen and watches it all happen. Going to sleep by himself was practically inviting the nightmares into his head, so that gave him only one choice really.
Oneshot where Ponyboy takes care of a sleepy Darry and they cuddle :3
Meanwhile both Ponyboy and Darry are questioning the dynamic of their relationship and if it goes anything deeper than just brotherly.NOT A SHIP. ⚠️

“Dar?” Soda said. “Something wrong?”
I looked down at the thing Darry was looking at and my heart dropped. I knew what it was exactly.
“Why are you reading that?” I said. I kind of yelled it I guess. I dunno why. Something in my chest felt wrong and it felt easier to yell. It didn’t feel good though, not when Darry’s face twisted a little more and he pushed away the papers.
“I’m sorry Ponyboy, it was laying out and— and it had that stamp,” his voice trailed off and got quiet. Darry didn’t get quiet most of the time, especially not when he was upset about something. He got loud usually. Not quiet.
Or: what happens if Darry reads The Outsiders (including all the things Pony said about him) and Soda finally admits you can’t always smile through life.

"He ain't breathin', Darry!" Soda yelled. "Pony's not breathing!" The yell quickly turned into a painful, desperate cry.
Darry had to force himself to move. All he wanted to do was sit down and cry. But no, he couldn't do that. He was the adult here. His baby brother was on the floor. And Darry had to save him, or he was going to die.
Ponyboy's skin was gray, lips blue, body frighteningly limp.
Darry kneeled down on the floor next to Pony, immediately starting CPR.
Soda sat on his knees, weeping at the sight before him.
His baby brother wasn't breathing, he was drowning...or maybe he already had.
His big brother was doing CPR on him.
Soda was certain that this was the most painful thing he would ever see.
Or:
Life without Johnny and Dally is becoming too much for Ponyboy, more-so than he himself even knows. When he starts sleepwalking and nearly dies, his brothers become sick with worry. Will they be able to help Pony out of the cages of his mind before it's too late? Or will the fire end up consuming him too?

“…Unless,” Morro spoke, though it came out more a mocking hiss than anything civil, “you wanna tell me yourself why the fated green ninja would be slashing his own wrists.”
