Dragged down the hall and tossed mercilessly back behind iron bars. Rushing to the door. He was told that this would grant him his freedom, and they replied that he still has yet to earn it. Blood drips off his knuckles as he curls his fingers around the bars and screams down the hall. The woman’s back fades down the dark hallway as Simon screams at the top of his lungs that this wasn’t the fucking deal!

Fight for your freedom, they told him. He fought. He won. And here he is, trapped. Hands bloodied and face bruised. Metal collar tight around his throat, constantly threatening to send spine-shattering electricity through his entire body. A strategy to ensure that he behaves. A tether to make him easier to control.

Every injection brings with it a new vision. The first time it’s Mizuki, fighting by Date’s side as she always insists on doing. One of the men in dark suits with even darker sunglasses pulls the trigger, and Date isn’t fast enough to save her.

There’s a magician living in an abandoned warehouse down on the Tricorner Docks.
Park Row has its fair share of strange tales and rumors floating through the cracks. The kids of the alley talk at length, telling ghost stories and cautionary tales. Passing advice on how to survive from one night to the next in the form of fun little parables that make the cold nights feel a little bit warmer, and maybe let them pretend that their lives are all a fun little game, just for a few moments.
The magician, at first, feels like a fable. Something that a kid saw and read just a little bit wrong and didn’t wait around to find out what was really going on. The kid who spotted the magician – a 9 year old red-head with green eyes and a smattering of freckles across his pale face – tells the tale like a myth.
A magician with golden hair and golden eyes, who clapped his hands together and rebuilt a car from scraps with a flash of light. Taking nothing in payment but a bottle of whiskey and a home-cooked meal.
(Or: The one where Edward Elric ends up in Gotham, decides Jason Todd is his, and makes it Bruce Wayne's problem.)

He still doesn't know what Takumi saw, then. A suspicious line of cover? Someone shifting in the shadows? Or, maybe, he saw the glint of the rifle itself, sunlight flashing off its barrel. In the end, it didn't matter: Takumi saw something, even if Eito didn't know it at the time.

What he did know was Takumi's shoulder, ramming into his side.

Then: the bang.
