Things… change.
Ghost supposes that many would probably say that they get better. They do get better, don’t they? Yes, they do. Things change, and they are better. The Infection is gone, and Hollow is safe, and Hornet is happy, and so Ghost is fine. Perhaps they are selfish, and they mourn a dying world that they can never return to, and they are more alone than ever before, but they’ll get over it.
…And it’s not as if anyone will notice if they don’t.
Ghost goes back in time, kills the Radiance, and sets everything right. They tell no one, and do it on their own. It is only after their family is happy, and the kingdom is safe, and the Abyss is soothed to sleep, that they realize just how lonely it is as the last remaining piece of a future never to be.

At least, that's what he tells a blue addison he accidentally draws the attention of, as well as their friends. But, something far worse is festering under the smiling puppet-like mask he wears, something that becomes harder to conceal the closer he gets to them.
Decades after Cyber City was ravaged by flesh-eating computer worms, few remember the infestation of 1997. After all, there was no point dwelling on it when the vile parasites had been fully eradicated. There was no chance that one had survived.

He’s got his own things to deal with, he quite frankly just has his own shit to do, but he can’t let another villain knock the Defender around. It’s like looking the other way when someone pisses on your lawn.
A more selfish part of Viktor doesn’t want anyone else to see the Defender when he’s all bloody and exhausted— viewing the man in such a state is reserved for him and no one else.
Or: A collection of non-chronological drabbles about the Defender, a hero, and the Machine Herald, a villain. They have no idea that their civilian lives are intricately tangled as partners Jayce and Viktor, living across the hall from each other with their shared laboratory at the end of the hall.

Summary
