“The bathroom is disgusting,” Zuko murmurs. Sokka’s stomach clenches as he watches Zuko pull out a bottle of some cleaning solution Sokka didn’t even know they owned, a pair of gloves, and an unopened pack of sponges.
Well, shit. If Zuko’s about to rage clean, their odds of salvaging tonight are slim.

It’s a bold question, and people sit up straighter at the sight of Zuko smiling. He’s only done that twice before this semester; one time was when he walked into class on the tail end of a phone call that, according to Isa Dangelo, ended with a ‘Love you.’ It ignited speculation about the person on the other end of the phone call for an month week.
“Someone else already made a similar argument to me,” Zuko says.
“Who?” Nadiya asks.
“My husband.”
There are multiple audible gasps, but before anyone can ask a follow-up of the professor who’s been scrupulously private thus far, he glances at the watch face on the inside of his wrist. “That’s time,” he says, and there’s no room for argument. “I’ll see you all on Wednesday.”

“You’re not gonna like this, babe,” Zuko laughs quietly into the top of his head, playing with the wavy strands on his fingertips. “But I don’t really have a plan.”
Sokka’s muffled groans make Zuko laugh harder, wheezing under the weight of his husband's body. “Ugh, you’re crushing me. It’s not a bad idea! Azula is still her family, she was bound to meet her anyway at one point or another. And yeah, she’s… less than pleasant, but that’s just how she is.” He kisses the top of Sokka’s head and waits for a reply. When his husband remains quiet, he continues, “Besides, I have a feeling Azula will know what to say. We’ll be with Izumi the whole time, too.”
He pauses again to raise his head and stare at the red satin canopy of their bed, gathering conviction for what he’s about to say next, but finds that it takes less time and hesitation than he thought it would.
“Azula would never hurt Izumi.”
Sokka lets out a long and heavy breath, the gust of it tickling Zuko’s ear, and then props himself up to look at him with his deep blue ocean eyes.
“Yeah, I don’t think she would either.”
