Summary
Klavier stared through the window in silence. In that silence, Simon could hear his reprisals of the past.
Unattainable approval. Standards never to be met. A throne of lies that he had been too naïve to see Kristoph’s manicured hands construct, even as his own—scarred from guitars and stained with ink—followed in their act, desperate for cheers and applause as they used the tools forged before them. And all of it, he had done with an eager, show-stopping smile.
Klavier did not smile now. He only continued to stare with a severity that hardened his eyes and cast stark shadows upon his features.
Kristoph Gavin stared back. A smile pulled at his lips. It did not fit among the gaunt features of his countenance, his eyes shadowed by hollows, his cheeks sunken into the bone beneath; but then, none of his physical appearance corresponded with his demeanor. He lifted his head, just barely, pale hair streaming down in a perfect, precise curl onto the gurney whose straps bound him. Then his voice crackled over the speakers. “My, my, what a surprise… It’s been four years too many,” he said, “Klavier.”
Simon Blackquill accompanies Klavier Gavin to his brother's execution.

Summary
His eyes narrowed, stare sharper than blades. The scrutiny was almost familiar: the arms crossed over his chest, stiff within his suit, the silence that stifled the chatter of people around them until there was nothing but the seconds passing by. Yet, his judgment was different. His frigidity remained only on the surface, melted in the candlelight that danced along his skin, painted his sharp features with hues of golden warmth.
Then, finally, he spoke. “What business do you have with an ex-con, hardly disentangled from the Reaper’s clutches? Surely, there is far better society to be found in this ballroom.”
Klavier nearly smiled at the poeticism of his words. “Verzeihen Sie,” he said, “I merely took an interest in meeting my partner in turning out the lights of the law.”
Klavier Gavin meets Simon Blackquill at the Prosecutor's Office 2028 New Year's gala.

Summary
Apollo Justice had been sitting at his desk; that was how it always happened.
Then, like the devil ascending upon him—with her red hair, and malice crinkling her eyes, broadening her grin—her palms smacked the desk. “Five days until Christmas, Apollo!” she announced as if he hadn’t been dreading it with each passing minute. “Didja get your shopping done?”
“Good morning to you too, Athena.”
He hadn't wanted to go Christmas shopping, or even acknowledge December's existence after last year. But, of course, Athena had to ask, and, of course, he had to dig himself a grave, just as they'd done for Clay last December.
