Somewhere in the garage, Jason squeaks to a stop again, but this time, there’s no shouted exclamations, and the footsteps don’t start again. Dick furrows his brow. It sounds like he stopped near the Japanese cars, and Dick can’t even remember what’s over there. He picks up his pace from where he had been meandering through the garage and beelines to where he thinks Jason is, the sudden silence unnerving him. God, what if something’s wrong, what if—
Jason is standing, arms frozen at his sides, breath shallow, jaw clenched tight, eyes the size of dinner plates. When Dick sees what he’s staring at, he can’t help the smirk. Jason turns his whole head to look at Dick and says, in a near whisper: “is that a Supra?”
“Yeah,” says Dick, “that’s the Supra.”
OR
Bruce requests that Dick try to bond with Jason before the adoption and leaves zero instructions on how to do that. Dick improvises.

The room inhales, holds its breath in jittery anticipation. The kid’s watching him, muscles tensed, expecting a fight. It’s not an unreasonable expectation. The last time they saw each other was against a backdrop of broken bones and spilt blood.
But Jason’s not looking for a fight. Not tonight. Not when he’s just come back to Gotham after so many months in the wind, escaping the fallout of his own actions. Not with the threat of Arkham still hanging over his head, solid and sharp as an executioner’s blade.

Three months was a short time to get to know everyone, but Ace was content with his place amongst the Whitebeards. Sure, he was nagged at, and overall being made a fuss of, but it wasn't a bad feeling. He only wished he could get closer to everyone quickly so he didn't feel left out anymore. But these feelings are displaced when Ace finds an innocuous book off the shelf of a cafe.

If I could I would consume this everyday. The way I think on this piece is astounding. I feel as though I have been plucked from security and pushed into the line of fire with this writing. It dares to question the whitebeards in a way I haven’t seen and I CRAVE IT. The author doesn’t just merely write, they have submerged you into it and push you into the emotional rollercoaster with Ace. And I would crawl through fire to keep reading it. If I am to die I want this writing buried with me.
