    Roy Mustang's words were laced with a thoughtful hum, and Edward tried not to feel hurt by the misassumption. Many heard his title and assumed it came down to his automail arm and leg. Ed had just hoped the Colonel - after everything - would've been different; that Mustang would've looked past Edward's ill-fitting uniform and cripplingly-heavy automail and only see him as a person.

    ''But,'' Mustang continued, pensive, ''I think they spelled your title wrong. You're not Fullmetal, you should be Fullmettle. As in, you are full of mettle.''

    Edward blinked, utterly baffled.

    ''Mettle, kid. M-E-T-T-L-E.''

    Mustang spelled it out for him. Literally. A genuine smile tugged at the Colonel's lips as he rumbled out a fleeting chuckle, affectionately sweeping a hand over the top of Edward's golden crown. The boy's throat constricted as an annoying warm blur suddenly invaded his vision. He had experienced more kind words and actions under this man's brief command than he had experienced in a long, long time.

    It was just a shame that it was only a temporary arrangement.

    Midoriya Izuku has always been written off as weird. As if it's not bad enough to be the quirkless weakling, he has to be the weird quirkless weakling on top of it.

    But truthfully, the "weird" part is the only part that's accurate. He's determined not to be a weakling, and in spite of what it says on paper, he's not actually quirkless. Even before meeting All-Might and taking on the power of One For All, Izuku isn't quirkless.

    Not that anyone would believe it if he told them.

    Sometimes Dead Gods still Dream. Sometimes Dead Gods don't stay Dead.
    Sometimes a Dead God's greatest hope is a handful of broken souls bereft of love and purpose, lost in a world that has never cared to truly know them.

    It is the nature of Faith to believe in what Isn't, to believe in the Light that cannot yet be Seen.
    The faith of a God is different. The faith of a God is to be given their Fangs.
    In the wide world of Wildmount, some great thing outside of time and space owes the Mighty Nein a debt– weather they like it or not– and it intends to make good on it. Fate now converges upon a single, final timeline, with all of Exandria now caught in the crossfire.

    In which things happen a little out of order, family is both a choice and a ferocity, Gods are fussy creatures that absolutely play favorites, and Kings and Queens have nothing on a group of assorted lunatics that Really Don't Care About Your Pride, Thanks.

    In which our intrepid heroes develop a pathological allergy to positive attention– which doesn't stop it from happening– things keep trying to kill them anyway, and the 'Mighty' part of the Mighty Nein is added much much later than you might think.

    “Like you were, when you first came here?” Xavier’s gaze was far too piercing. It sliced Logan to the bone, and he could feel his skin prickle where phantom blades cut through it.
    “Exactly,” Logan growled, refusing to let Xavier see just how much that bothered him. “That’s why the kid’s dangerous.”
    “That’s why he needs help,” Xavier pressed gently, as if he was chiding Logan for his hostility. “And that is why you are the best equipped to help him.”

    In which Logan accidentally volunteers to help babysit the latest addition to the Xavier Institute, a strange new student that was quite literally left on their doorstep. However, this student isn't quite a "student" at all; it is a weapon left without a handler. Unfortunately, the new mutant now thinks Logan is his handler. Even more unfortunately, Logan knows more about this situation than he would like to.

    AKA an AU that embellishes on the fact that Kurt was being used as a weapon by Stryker at the beginning of X2, turning the situation into a recovery scenario that ends up helping both Kurt and Logan overcome their Weapon X conditioning.
