how strange to see your friend suddenly change but the change is them becoming the best version of them self BUT you don't get to share in the process of change.
your friend is dead, you killed him, but he's alive now and you never had to make that choice this time around, but he still remembers that choice and won't ever forgive you, but he loves you more openly and more keenly and makes it so you don't have to make that choice again, but it doesn't change the fact that you DID make that choice, even if you don't remember it -

Mindy Park is rapidly realising that the first intelligent extraterrestrial to make contact with the human race thinks they’re fucking stupid. She’s pretty sure that Dr Grace isn’t accurately translating half the things Rocky is saying, but most of what he is telling her is that Rocky has a better way of doing what NASA wants them to do, and honestly, it seems like Rocky is mostly right. She probably doesn’t want to know what the other half of what Grace’s new alien friend is saying, if the things that are making it through what she’s calling the “middle school teacher filter” are “why would you do something the dumb way when you could do it the right way”.

It gets worse when they find out the circumstances of him ending up on the Hail Mary.
When his declining health necessitates a trip back to Earth, he is faced with a planet that loves him so fiercely and wonderfully that it finally starts to break through his crippling lack of self worth and bloom into something incredible.

“Discussing possible reasons why Tau Ceti is not infected while other stars are,” Eva replied deftly. “I would invite you to join, but we were just finishing—”
“Oh, that’s easy.” His hand twisted a knob, and the notes came out sharper. “It is infected—Petrova Line and everything.”
In Grace's opinion, dreaming about time traveling is no excuse for getting out of practice with his Eridian. To the rest of the Petrova Taskforce, it seems a bit odd that their resident Astrophage expert has suddenly taken to carrying a keyboard around and playing it whenever he speaks. Eva Stratt resolves to figure out what is going on.

It had been a week since he'd last seen Shadow Milk. It wasn't a rare occurrence for him to vanish into thin air; it was his favorite trick after all. It's the lack of presence that Pure Vanilla found to be odd.
Ever since the beast arrived to his home in the Vanilla Kingdom, Shadow Milk had made it his goal to permeate into every facet of his and his people's lives.
His citizens would report their furniture floating above the ground, eyes that they swore were in the corner of their vision that would disappear when they turned, and the sharp ringing of bells down alleyways.
In a way, the Beast of Deceit is more ghost than cookie, as no one outside of a few have truly managed to see him.

There is a pattern to Shadow Milk shifting forms.
Pure Vanilla started mapping it to better expect when he'd find a snake in his closet, or a porcupine on his chair.
It always comes back to perception; or Shadow Milks want to not be perceived at all.
While his beast loved his theatrics and ached desperately for his attention, did not he want others to perceive him. His time as the Fount, both a profound breach of personal boundaries and intense isolation, left his dear beast's emotional processing absolutely destroyed.
So he changed his form.

You may know very well that such things will not happen, either because they can't or because the people involved simply wont let them, but your mind doesn't exactly care for logic. The God of Deceit was once a god who danced through truth like a flame through old parchment— destructive, beautiful, inevitable. But that was before the fae turned their backs. Before they bound him in this tree, with chains etched in runes that gnawed through flesh and soul alike.
Now he is stillness. Now he is silence. Now he is Shadow Milk— the god no one remembers, watching the world like a man at the bottom of a well watches the light too far above to reach.
And so he waits.
Through the thin membrane of reality, where the veil is weakest, he sees the world. He sees the golden fields stretching in humble simplicity, dotted with the flicker of sheep. He sees the hill, where wildflowers bloom with such audacity they seem to challenge the sky.
And there, in the middle of it all— white as a breath, still as a prayer —is the shepherd. Pure Vanilla.

Pure Vanilla thinks of his flock as he dies. He thinks of Dandelion. He thinks of warm bread and honey. Of sun on his face. Of the feeling of grass beneath his feet.
Death is not merciful, it is not quick.
The shepherd bleeds, and The God of Deceit does not intervene.

Blueberry Yogurt Academy is celebrating its 100th anniversary by throwing an elaborate ball being hosted by the Founder and Dean, the self proclaimed ‘Sage of Truth’, Blueberry Milk. The exclusive guest list ranged from former students to dignitaries from all across Earthbread, but one seemed to have gone out in error. When Truthless Recluse was delivered his invite via a very frightened courier he ignored it, only for another to be delivered by blueberry bird a week later. It seemed the Sage refused to take ‘no’ for an answer.
A confrontation is inevitable and an old truth will finally come to light. One that has kept the Sage and Recluse apart for far too long.

They could have never predicted the manner in which the team now returned, panicked, shouting commands at eachother, a few of the cookies out of sight and on the floor of the basket below in an effort to tend to.. something.
The team seemed fine, everyone seemed intact, no one was hurt, yet they could see blood stains, and of course there was the problem of whoever was down there? If it wasn't a member of the team, then who…?For a moment, when the basket's door opened, they considered whether it would have been better not to know. Maybe ignorance truly was bliss, maybe if they hadn't seen this would have gone unknown to them, mere hushed whispers through the kingdom, secrets hidden from them, would be all that remained of this horrible sight, the sight of the pitiful heap of blue and blood red their greatest enemy had become.
