Waiting for Gaius’ Miracle Elixir to take effect, Merlin casually reveals something to Arthur. Something that makes him question last night’s events—when Merlin had murmured forbidden, delicious words into the Prince’s ear. Something that stirs a part of his body he wished was asleep. Will this turn into another round of this Game of theirs?

Summary
The chamber ceiling recedes, opens before them. Arthur thinks he could go far as the starless night, be swallowed there, in the belly of a great and terrible serpent. He is no-one; he is nothing. He needs another half to complete him, and without it, he is worse than dead.
Arthur hears of the Écrevisse, a cave that shows both a man’s greatest fear and deepest desire. To prove himself, he goes alone. Without Merlin. Yet the cave brings Merlin to him, as Arthur’s fears and desires become one.

When Arthur decides that he should humor his Council and at least make an effort in finding a bride, he enlists the help of Morgana. Her solution? “You’re like,” Merlin tries to explain it, if only so Arthur stops looking at him with that strange, unsure look, “a toothache.”
The new look on Arthur’s face is not a better one.
“A toothache?” he says, dead calm, “Are you serious? Are you honestly saying that you think being married to me would be like having a toothache? Merlin!”
“I’m going to bed,” Merlin says, bailing out now and ignoring all protesting sputtering, because this conversation is clearly a problem for future Merlin. He will soothe Arthur and make sure that he knows anyone would be lucky to be married to him, but in a really annoying way. Merlin will figure it out. Future Merlin, that is.
Not this one.
This one is already drooling onto his luxurious down pillow, blissfully unaware of what he has wrought.
