“Yes, sweet girl,” Ilya murmured as he ran a large hand down Anya's back. “You have been so good for Papa today. Khoroshaya devochka.”
He shifted his gaze then, looking down toward the pair of large brown eyes at his feet. They stared up at him with just as much affection as Anya’s had, but it was clear there was something else there too. Pleading. Desperation. An unspoken question.
Ilya shook his head and gave the other dog a small smile. “I am sorry, shchenok, but you know the rules. Only good pups are allowed on the furniture.”
In truth, Ilya wasn’t sorry at all — he knew the pleading was all an act. His pup was exactly where he wanted to be.

Shane acts anxious at times. Nothing new. But sometimes it is a different anxious.
Ilya is observant of his husband and sees it for what it is, he is supportive and tries to gently guide Shane in the right direction.
And the Centaurs team, well they are slowly realising too what is happening and show their support until Shane learns about himself, they don't push.or
Shane is genderfluid but doesn't know it about himself, yet.
Ilya and the rest of the Centaurs team figure it out before Shane.

Summary
If Ilya was hurt, Shane would be the last one to find anything out, because on paper, they were nothing to each other. Less than nothing. Officially, they hated each other.
The thought of Ilya in that position—trapped on the other side of a locked hospital door, frantic, blind, and treated like an intrusive stranger—made his stomach twist with a violent wave of unease.
He couldn’t do that to him. He wouldn't.
OR
In a moment of impulsivity, Shane makes Ilya his legal healthcare proxy. When he's injured in the infamous Boston game, it takes everyone (including Ilya) by surprise.

The team doctor for the Boston Raiders looked at him like he had lost his mind. Around him, Marleau, Connors, and St. Simon stared at him, mouths open. It was a bit comical, maybe. And that was just the right vibe Ilya wanted this meeting to have.
“Da. Hollander.”
“The fuck, Rozy?” Connors asked, and seemed to speak for all four men.
