On their way out, they're given the worst possible outcome, and Leon finds himself trapped between a rock and a hard place with not much time to spare. Feelings ensue as the two men spend what could very well be their last moments together.

When Leon S. Kennedy woke up in a cell, his hands cuffed in front of him, his first thought was:
Did the DSO ever negotiate with terrorists?
The obvious answer was 'no'. In all the time Leon had been working as an agent, never once had he heard of a rescue mission for a missing colleague. If an agent failed their mission it usually meant one of two things, either they'd been lucky and were dead, or if not – well, they might have ended up in a situation like he just had. Which usually meant they would be dead in five to ten business days. Either way they were not coming back. His only hope at this point would be that he could find a way out by himself.

Grace snapped herself out of her detrimental train of thought, fingers digging into the flesh of her thighs. Swallowing past the tightness in her throat, she focused her eyes back onto Hunnigan. Before she could spiral again, Grace pushed for clarification, "I-if he's fine, then…?"
Hunnigan studied her for a few seconds, giving her time to recompose herself—almost long enough to make Grace start fidgeting—before she answered, "He's been compromised by his own instincts."
Grace blinked, taking a moment to process the sentence. Once she did, her eyes widened in disbelief. "He's—he's gone feral?"

Leto thought it outrageously funny at first—to hear Paul, in his small, child's voice, attempt to say milord. The boy could manage, "m'lor," and the first time he said it prompted great excitement and celebration; each new word or phrase Paul added to his rapidly growing vocabulary was met with great fanfare.
"Shall we return to your mother, Paul?" Leto had asked him.
Paul had blinked, took a moment to consider—always thinking, it was clear from his expressions that he was always puzzling something out in his mind, clever boy—and then said, solemnly, "Yes, m'lor," and had giggled shyly when Leto and Gurney roared with laughter.
But now he would not refer to Leto by anything else.

All without anyone else knowing what had occurred! She would teach the skill to Paul when he was old enough. But his statement now bewildered her just as much as it clearly bewildered Leto, who gave her a searching look, as though attempting to see if there were truly toxins flowing in her bloodstream.
Jessica cupped either side of Paul's face with her hands. "I haven't been poisoned, Paul. I'm perfectly fine! Look at me—don't I seem well?"
Their son rubbed at his eyes with a chubby fist. "But you—you ate the blackberries without testing them with the poison-snooper."

Lady Jessica would give anything for Paul to not experience that kind of pain again. For this godforsaken prophecy to stay out of her son’s life. To go back to the way things were before her people, her husband, were slaughtered like animals.

"Well, how sweet of you to say," Leon bites back as he takes a second to also clean himself up from the rocks.
Luis reaches out to grab Leon's shoulder, holding him in place, while using his other hand to feel Leon's forehead.
"What are you doing?" Leon shoos Luis’ hand away with annoyance.
"You have a fever. You need to rest."
Leon is trying to find Ashley but finds himself feeling progressively worse after his plagas infection. Luckily, Luis is here to make sure he doesn’t die on the way.

Ashley feels like every muscle in her has started relaxing, and she's more than willing to let it happen– lord knows she could use any kind of relief after what’s gone down. Her hand, which had stayed tightly gripping Leon’s, loosens its hold. She'll never have to see the scratches on his arms from where he'd been subconsciously trying to dig out the parasite again. She’ll finally be able to go home and rest after who knows how long. Every night has been sleepless, and she isn't even sure how many nights it's been.

Summary
As much as Leon tried to be quiet, he wasn’t completely able to hold back the pained grunts as he stripped off the protective vest. There was no way for him to get to the wound otherwise. It hurt even more than walking, and by the time he threw the vest aside he was bathed in cold sweat. Breathless, he collapsed against the wall, taking several deep breaths before he was able to continue.
There was a suture kit in the first aid supplies, and Leon really really hoped he still remembered how to use it. It had been a while since he’d had to do emergency stitches.

“You’re that Leon,” Claire frowns. She’d seen the streamers, the sign welcoming in the West Office, and his desk that was glamoured up. Everything must have gone to hell when he arrived and got somewhat accumulated. She tucked the ID away in her pocket, “I’m sorry this happened to you,” she murmurs, quieter, solemner. Clearing her throat, she sat up straighter, “Maybe you’re the key to this, for a cure or whatever. That’s got to be the reason you aren’t… entirely bloodthirsty.”
Zombie Boy—Leon—turned briefly to groan at her before returning to finish off the carcass. It’s the best response she’ll get for now, and it makes her grin slightly. She ruffles his damp hair as she stands, and he doesn’t react.
Leon goes to his new job on time.
A couple of days later, Claire makes a friend.

Summary
Suddenly Leon’s feet met nothing at all, and when he tried to pitch himself forward to find solid ground his feet slipped on the thick mud. He couldn’t even scream, his breath hitching in his throat, and then he was tumbling down the hillside. His arm hit something on his way down, and he just tried to shelter his head so that he wouldn’t end up with a concussion to end all concussions.
Once Leon finally hit a patch of even ground, he was so stunned that he couldn’t move for a second. Only then he heard someone scream his name, followed by a chorus of “Watch out!” and “Get the hell out of the way!” and “Run!” Alarmed, Leon looked up, and the lightning must’ve struck again as there was a whole lot of debris headed down the same way he’d just come.
