Despite the fact he’d said it plainly, Fray’s brows rose in surprise.
It sounded to her, like this man was willing to let her flock –and by extension, herself– remain within his lands while the ewes had their lambs, and while those lambs gained weight. But she could end up being here for months. At least another week needed to pass before the ewes would start giving birth, and then almost four more months for the lambs to gain enough weight to make the return journey north.
“I don’t want to be a problem,” Fray said slowly, “this is your home we’re intruding on.”
“Stay.”*
As a shepherdess, Fray is accustomed to roaming far and wide as she protects her flock from predators, and ensures their timely return to market.
