In an ambiguous post-season 2 world everyone is aware of Bess and Nancy being heiresses. Nancy doesn't hold any Hudson power yet until Everett is arrested, and the Marvins have disowned Bess, making it a rather gloomy winter. However, they are determined to have a good time at a winter festival despite the press that is sure to be there. Things go awry quickly, but, once everything is said and done, Nancy would have to say they had a fantastic time. Maybe even the best Christmas yet.

Her suspicions are confirmed when he pulls out his joint and takes one short drag, as though trying to keep himself steady and alert for her. Something about the faraway look in his eyes and the calm curve of his mouth that reveals so little of what she’s sure is a storm whirling in his mind makes her want to open up to him... And she felt like Ace would make sure the landing was soft for her after she jumped off this cliff. She thought of the bluffs where Lucy Sable was last seen, how Nancy had been up there not so long ago, celebrating her newly appointed crown of sea queen. Oh, how time flies. The idea of venting to him, of throwing her problems down into the water, for him, the tide, to carry for her. Just for a little while. And so, for the first time in a long time, Nancy Drew did something without thinking of the consequences or reasons for doing so. Just going for it because she felt like it
