The wind off the Pacific came in steady, salt-heavy gusts that shoved at Tommy’s shoulders like the world was trying to move him where it wanted him. His boots were planted on rough stone, knees drawn up, forearms locked over them like a brace. He stared out at the water until the horizon blurred—until the line between sky and ocean softened into one long smear of dusk.
Somewhere behind him, the world still existed. Cars. People. Sirens in the far distance that didn’t belong to him right now.
But up here it was just the crash of waves and the slow bleed of sunset across the surface.
He’d been crying so long the tears didn’t even feel hot anymore. They just ran, unbothered, down the grooves of his face and into the collar of his hoodie. He wiped them away once, hard, like that would erase the fact that they’d happened at all.

Summary
Buck did it - he saved Bobby and Chimney from the super virus. In the middle of it all, his senses came online, showing him as a Sentinel.
Only as a newly booted up grade five Sentinel, things aren't exactly easy on him. He'll need a Guide and learn how to deal with his new senses without zoning every second of the day. If only he didn't feel calmer around Tommy than any Guide he'd met. And on top of it all, his place at the 118 seems to be falling apart as well.
Things could be easy, but they weren't. For now at least. Who knew what could happen?
